| How To Believe In Objectivity And Independence of Election Commission Posted: 29 May 2012 12:34 AM PDT English translation of my column article which originally published in China Presson 15th May 2012. The past Sunday was a day that many football fans eagerly await as it was the season's judgment day. Between Manchester Utd, the traditional dominant force and Manchester City, the new powerhouse, who would emerge as the Premier League champion? In the end, Manchester City scored 2 injury-time goals and turned defeat into a 3-2 victory over Queen's Park Rangers which were reduced to 10 men. City rival's Utd could not prevent City from taking their first league title after 44 years despite a 1-0 victory at Sunderland. The outcome of a football match may not be known until the very last minute. However, if before commencement of the match, everyone notices that the referee for the Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers is actually a Manchester City player, or ex-player, I believe not only QPR and Manchester United's fans but the all other football fans would object as well. If we take the general election as a match between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat, then Election Commission would no doubt assume the role of referee. Now that the EC chief and his deputy were found out to be UMNO members, or ex-members, would anyone believe in objectivity and independence of EC? (More......) |

| Posted: 28 May 2012 11:21 PM PDT This column article published on the Website of Chinese Newspaper Chinapress.com.my 本月28日，首相納吉將到訪沙登，身為沙登區國會議員，我希望納吉不會空手而來，更希望他能借此行程，對一些事項作出明確的交代。 第一，2008年1月30日，馬華前總會長和前教育部長希山慕丁于馬華公會大廈聯袂宣佈，將興建6所新華小，其中一所，就著落于沙登嶺。 經歷1519天漫長的等待，終于等到教育部副部長魏家祥于今年3月29日宣佈，中央政府決定將一塊位于利斯達裡柏達納Lestari Perdana的一塊7英畝的國小保留地，撥出3英畝"讓"沙登嶺華小建校。 然而，教育部長在國會給予我的一份書面回答卻透露，依照教育部的規劃，國內學校的土地面積，中學校地應介于8至12英畝，而小學校地則應介于平均6至8英畝。 這不得不讓人納悶，為什么沙登嶺華小的校地，卻比教育部所擬定的標準少了一半？校地的大小直接影響學生的學習環境和學校未來的發展，而且根據地方政府的資料，Lestari Perdana鄰近一帶還有9片大小超過5英畝的校地，要給沙登嶺華小一個舒適的落腳地，真的這么難嗎？ 第二，首相納吉必須向人民交代，為何沙登嶺華小是半津貼華小（sekolah bantuan kerajaan），而非全津貼華小（sekolah kerajaan）。 1998年，教育部官員將校地屬于中央政府的學校劃分為"全津貼學校"，校地不屬于中央政府的學校則劃分為"半津貼學校"，並且規定校地不屬于中央政府的學校，必須自己負責學校擴建和翻新的經費。 只承擔半津貼 教育部也只承擔半津貼華小每月最高2000令吉的水電費，若有不敷，那也必須由該校董事部自己負責。也正是基于種種差別待遇，一直以來，半津貼華小的存在都被視為是打壓母語教育、邊緣化華小的象征之一，華教界人士多年來也一直爭取將全國800多所半津貼華小全部轉換為全津貼華小。 (More......) |
