Dr M: BN win unlikely in Kelantan, voters 'obsessed' with Nik Aziz

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Barisan Nasional (BN) is unlikely to wrest Kelantan from PAS in the coming polls, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad predicts, saying voters there were too "obsessed" with Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat to vote against him. "There is a no chance" for BN to take over Kelantan because of the people's obsession with their spiritual leader, the former prime minister published yesterday on his blog
"So much is this obsession that the people of Kelantan accept everything he says as true and reflect the teachings of Islam," Dr Mahathir said.
"We are puzzled how there are Muslims who regard their leaders so highly that they are willing to drink the water used to wash their feet. But this is what happens when one is obsessed," he added.
Dr Mahathir said any "sane person" would reject Nik Aziz's teachings that by voting PAS, one would be blessed and immediately guaranteed a place in heaven.
"But it seems the majority of people in Kelantan will continue supporting their leader," he said, adding those with doubts are not speaking out.
"PAS' victory in Kelantan and in other states show Nik Aziz's leadership is not affected although he is clearly abusing religion for political purposes."
Dr Mahathir said that previously, PAS use to regard cooperation between Umno and non-Muslims as against Islam.
"Now PAS under Nik Aziz's leadership, is not only working closely with non-Muslims, but they are willing to work together with those who openly oppose PAS' goal to establish an Islamic state implementing hudud law," he said.
"I remember clearly while we were building Putrajaya, Nik Aziz claimed that when PAS takes over the country, they will sell off Putrajaya. Now, they are fighting to take over as leaders of Putrajaya," he added.
Dr Mahathir reminded the people that Muslims are divided and weakened "because their obsession with their leaders are more than the teachings in the Al-Quran".
"The situation of Muslims and the Islamic religion in Malaysia is the same," he said. "Indeed, all will come from Muslims themselves."
PAS has ruled Kelantan since 1990. It is one of four Malaysian states not ruled by the BN coalition after the 2008 elections.
PAS earlier this year confirmed Nik Aziz's candidacy in the upcoming general election.
Dr Mahathir was first elected in 1964 while Nik Aziz first stood as a PAS candidate in a by-election for the Kelantan Hilir parliamentary seat in 1967.

Selangor Did Not "Overpay" for Talam Land

Posted: 07 Jul 2012 07:36 AM PDT

Datuk Chua Tee Yong had on 5th July 2012 claimed that the Selangor state government has "overpaid" for a piece of land taken over from Talam Corporation Berhad.  This piece of 2,263.53 acres of leasehold land in Bestari Jaya was valued at only RM139.09 million by an independent professional valuer although the State government had valued it at RM181.08 million.  Hence the accusation that Selangor has overpaid by RM41 million.

Datuk Chua's accusation is not only cheeky, it is deliberately misleading by using selective statistics. Just as there were some pieces of land which the valuer Mitra Valuers & Property Consultants Sdn Bhd had valued lower than the state valuation, there were also many other pieces of land which was valued higher than the state valuation.

For example, the state government valued a 341acres piece of Bukit Beruntung 2 freehold land at RM89.1 million, Mitra had valued the same piece of land for RM100.8 million or RM11.7 million "gained" by the state.

Similarly, another piece of land, 686.93 acres of Bukit Beruntung 2 freehold land was valued at RM179.5 million by the state, but was valued by Mitra to be much higher at RM198.9 million. That's a "gain" of RM19.4 million to the state.

Why did Datuk Chua Tee Yong not praise Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim for his astute business sense over these pieces of land?

What is important however, isn't whether each of these 13 pieces of land taken over from Talam Corporation are valued higher or lower than the independent professional valuer.  What is important is that the overall value of all 13 pieces of land taken over by the state as settlement for the Talam debts are fair in value.

In this case, the state has measured the combined value of these parcels of land to be RM676.1 million.  However, the very same Mitra Valuers had valued these 13 parcels of land to be worth RM685.2 million, which means that they are worth more than the value the state has attached to these properties!

In fact, despite many of these properties having been acquired in the 1990s, the book value of these properties in Talam's financial statement is an even higher figure, RM690.2 million. This means that the state government got these pieces of land at a RM14.1 million discount to Talam's book value of these assets.  The above information is publicly available on Bursa Malaysia, in the Circular to Shareholders on the Debt Settlement Proposal issued on 15 March 2011.

Datuk Chua in his anxiety to discredit the Selangor state government has completely missed the woods for the trees.  Or he has decided to shoot blindly, before he was able to obtain all relevant information.

As an accountant, Datuk Chua should be giving praise to the Selangor state government for not only being able to recover all its RM392 million debt with Talam, it was able to do so by taking over assets at a lower value that what they are worth as measured by an independent professional valuer, accepted by the Securities Commission!

It would perhaps be more productive for Datuk Chua to scrutinise the other land transactions which took place during the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration where state land was alienated to their cronies at prices way below market value.

Can Datuk Chua investigate or explain how the Tanjong Karang Umno Division paid a premium of only RM130,244 for a piece of 1.2ha commercial land in April 2002 despite the market valuation by the state government being fixed at RM3.3 million?

Or can Datuk Chua demand accountability and transparency from the former BN state government for alienating another piece of land to Tanjong Karang Umno Division for only  RM47,039 when the 0.437ha land is worth more than a million ringgit based on the state's own valuation?

These dodgy land deals have been exposed by the DAP Sekinchan state assemblyman in the last 2 days. They proved that while the Pakatan Rakyat government seeks to maximize returns to the rakyat by securing more than what is valued, the BN government was the complete opposite by giving away enormous premium discounts to its cronies.

We have over the last 2 days responded to and refuted every single one of Datuk Chua Tee Yong and the Selangor MCA leaders allegations.  None of their accusations of abuse could hold any water.  Hence it is time for Datuk Chua and his cohort to be brave and courageous in facing up to their mistakes, publicly concede that they were mistaken and apologise to the Selangor state government for tainting the good name of the Pakatan Rakyat Selangor government.

We call for 100,000 Malaysians to donate RM1 to support Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya Utara, Tony Pua in his battle with Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS).

Tony has fought for Selangor water rights which was privatized by the Barisan Nasional government to be returned to the state government. SYABAS has sued Tony for defamation and the High Court has awarded RM200,000 in damages with costs to SYABAS. Tony has appealed the judgment to the Court of Appeal but he has been asked to pay the damages to SYABAS first.

that Botak is the major left over from the Pariah. Had to expose him on what he is trying to do. Now that the Pariah had said that he will not send the plane to MAS for service then we must make sure that the Botak is not doing anything to assist. We must thank the Pariah for not sending plane for service because AA is not paying the market rate.

That Botak must not be spared at all.

Dear Wee,

EPF has selling off MAS shares since late MAY 2012, few hundred thousand shares at one go. I wonder who is slowly picking up the shares since this is a loss making company. You can track this moment from Bursa’s website on MAS.

There is surely something going on here. Is it possible for you to know who the buyer is?

Dear Terminal Mess and MAS Boy,

Let us work as a team to expose botak head Azhari who are trying to screw up MAS Engineering, with the assistance of his YES MAN Aminuddin Zakaria (hand picked by TF from GE Engine).

The rumour of SAE taking over/buying over MAS Engineering is just a diversion created by b(otak) kosong Azhari.

TF wont send his A320/A330 to MAS , that’s what TF had openly said.Where will he send his aircraft ?

The theory is that , MAS currently had an Indian MRO JV with GMR in Hydrabad, a 50-50 JV in which MAS had invested few million US dollar.

Azhari is trying to kill this JV by openly saying to us that MAS engineering don’t want to get involve in it any more.

In fact, the two Malaysian COO and CFO in GMR , their contract not renewed/terminated since April this year 2012 by MAS.(The CEO is an Indian national)

Since MAS Engineering don’t want to participate anymore , the only solution is to sell this MAS 50 % share in GMR, and its up to MAS to decide how much it will cost , satu ringgit ?? and guess who will buy it ???

Yes, the airlines who’s A320 is due for HMV (Heavy Maintenance) lah of course.

Also , Words going around that Azhari had sign LOI between MAS Engineering and LHT for LHT to take over/JVs MAS component , electrical ,propeller and landing gear work shop. This is also done for some reason in which it will be expose too…..(the clue , there is a link to TF Chatham Jets set up in Subang Airport ).

As if MAS Engineering shop staff are so stupid don’t even know how to run a workshop , it had been running just fine for the last 20 years !!
Do we need a white man to teach us what to do ??

The longer this botak head is around the more damage done to this beloved national airlines.

He should be kick to Jakarta…………

Terminal mess

Very interesting comments. No wonder the botak is still holding on when his friend Rozman has thrown in the towel. May be he never and it so good in MAS or he is still having unfinished jobs to do in MRO for the Pariah.

We must watch up this botak. Make sure that he is unable to move to screw MAS. We must ensure that his every move is exposed before he can do anything.

Thank you for highlighting for us to know. Hopefully AJ will wake up and take the necessary actions to look after the interest of MAS and not that Pariah.

Dear YB Wee

Pls investigate the rumour going around MAS that the engineering MRO division is to be sold to Sepang Aircraft engineering (SAE). Heard that Azahari has been trying to stir staff support for this idea. If this happens then the pariah can send all his aircraft for maintenance & technically will not be under MAS MRO as he had claimed recently.
Also, suspect that the powers that be are also stalling AIROD’s bid to become a civil MRO by delaying the regulatory processes needed for them to perform maintenance for 3rd party
If SAE (which is now owned by AIRBUS) does take over MAS MRO, then it will be Malaysia’s loss.
What MAS & MAHB have been building all these years are slowly being destroyed by the greedy, selfish pariah.

Spinning is TF’s way of surviving. So we have to be careful with what he say. Just ignore him. Let him go to Jakarta and see what is he going to get there. If the AA refused to move to KLIA2, just close down LCCT. The government cannot be dancing to his tune all the time. With the Slumberjack in power then he can.

Runway is designated by using the first two numbers of compass bearing of its allignment. Thus a runway direction of 324 degrees (NNW) is called runway 32.. From the oppsite end – in the SSW direction, will be called runway 14. The lay out of the third runway is to the west of KLIA2 parallel to the existing two runways (32L / 14R & 32R / 14L). Most likely the new runway will be designated as 32L / 14R while the current runway will be redesignated as 32C / 14C and 32R / 14L remain as it is. Looking from the air, both ends of the new western most runway is at the same position as the middle runway, with the new LCCT terminal on the norhern half of both runways. It means, depending on the direction they are used, aircraft will either have long taxying time for take of or after landing.

Rightfully, they shoud be offset, like the two current runways, such that they have short taxying time for both take off and landing. For example, the present runway, normally 32R is for takeoff and 32L for landing. Beginning of takeoff end runway 32R is nearer to terminal, thus saving taxy time and fuel. Landing or touchdown point of runway 32L is far from terminal, so that the end of landing run and exit is near to terminal.

The new LCCT terminal (KLIA2) is very far from the eastern runway. Most likely, aircraft using KLIA2 will be using the western most and middle runways. When the active runways are in NNW direction, aircraft will have long taxy time, where as if SSW directions are in used, aircraft will have long taxying after landing.

Apart from reducing taxying time and avoiding aircraft having to cross the middle runway, the additional runway will not likely increase the traffic capacity very much. The capacity (number of take offs and landings per hour) also depends on the airspace around the airport. Consideration has to be taken on the dirctions of aircraft after takeoff and the missed approach path of landing aircraft. The whole airspace management around KLIA and Subang will have to restudied and redesigned.

Balik Pulau - A place for eco-tourism and art heaven

Posted: 06 Jul 2012 10:17 PM PDT

As reported in The Star.

Balik Pulau - A place to inspire artists

THE Balik Pulau Art Society aims to establish Balik Pulau in Penang as an art village with the upcoming Balik Pulau Art Festival on July 13.

The three-day festival, which ends on July 15, aims to promote interaction among the people. Artists will be seen outdoors busy sketching the panaromic view of Balik Pulau from Balik Pulau Hill, Anjung Indah, on the first day.

The activity continues on the second day with painting or photography focusing on a few spots such as a fishing village, paddy field and old heritage buildings.

The festival will end with the display of artwork at No. 5 Kampung Ku, Balik Pulau, on the final day.
Penang-born artist Patrick Lasak is a self-taught artist who considers Balik Pulau a treasure trove.

"You can find the biggest inspiration here in Balik Pulau.

"The problem is, not many people know about the place or see it as inspiring for artists.
"We should shift some of the art attention from George Town to other destinations," said Patrick.

State Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai thinks Balik Pulau has potential to be an eco-tourism and art haven.

"Balik Pulau is attractive for several reasons. One is the food, such as durian and laksa, and second is for the panaromic view, especially the landscape and hills," he said in a press conference.

Wong also witnessed the handing over of three hardcover books by Penang Museum and Art Gallery to the representatives of schools in Penang.

The books are 'Tan Mo-Leong Retrospective' by Dr Tan Chong Guan, 'Eric Quah Retrospective' by Datuk Dr Tan Chee Khuan and 'Dunia Seri Catan Khoo Sui Hoe' by Lee Khai.

‘Monopoli’ Petron Pada MAS Dipersoal

Posted: 06 Jul 2012 10:46 PM PDT

Menurut beliau,

Ekonomi wasatiyyah tidak mengizinkan pembolotan sehingga hak memanfaat dan menikmati kekayaan menjadi terbatas hanya di kalangan kelompok kecil para hartawan (dulatan bayma al-aghniya'). Apabila jurang ekonomi antara golongan: the have – the have not – the have a lot telah menjadi sedemikian luas, pemerintah harus campur tangan demi mengembalikan wasatiyyah dalam erti keseimbangan dan keadilan sosial.

Saya sekadar menyentuh dimensi pinggiran.

Akhir sekali, ingin saya berkongsi puisi seorang penyair-budayawan kenamaan Rendra berjudul “Kesaksian Bapak Saija” yang berbunyi seperti berikut:

Hidup tanpa daya
sebab daya ditindih ketakutan.
Setiap hari seperti mati berulang kali.
Setiap saat berharap menjadi semut
agar bias menjadi tidak kelihatan.
Sekarang setelah mati
baru aku menyedari
bahwa ketakutanku membantu penindasan,
dan sikap tidak berdaya menyuburkan ketidakadilan.
