Press statement by Dr. Boo Cheng Hau, Johor State Chairman, issued on 5th July 2012 at Skudai DUN Service center, Taman Sri Orkid Skudai, to remind all parties concerned to accept the reality that Malaysia is a multicultural and multireligeous society where inspirations of all segments of the society should be taken into account in nation building.
In response to Kemelah ADUN Ayob Rahmat's recent statement that Johor should implement "true Hudud" law that applies to both Muslims and Non-Muslims, I would like to remind all parties concerned to appreciate the reality that Malaysia is a multicultural and multireligeous society and respect the feelings and inspirations of all segments of the society including the minority ethnic groups.
In the moment, many bread and butter issues are the major concerns of the day including rampant corruption, declining quality of life, poor public safety and security, basic needs of affordable clean water supply, food and health care, better living environment, more opportunities for better higher education.
I would like to express my concern and regrets that many who deliberate about Hudud have ignored the feelings and sensitivities of the minority ethnic groups in the country and show the least concern for the issues of social betterment. It is to be pointed out that any form of ethnic dominance, including both minority or majority dominance, is a hurdle to national unity.
More alarmingly, many have treated the Federal Constitution and minority's sentiments as non-existent. It is an unhealthy and detrimental development to nation building.
I would like to remind that the PR Common Policy Framework and Buku Jingga based upon the constitutional framework is the foundation for not only relations between PR component parties but also the framework of our country's future nation building.
