Mahasiswa perlu diberi ruang untuk membukti kematangan: UMNO-BN jangan masuk campur

Pro-M bantah UM perkenal sistem zon p'raya kampus

'Kecilkan penguasaan mahasiswa API'

NFC Puts Shopping Cart Before The Cow

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 06:58 PM PST

In a statement today, NFCorp Chairman, Datuk Seri Muhammad Salleh "explained that the publicly-funded cattle-rearing firm was building up the market in Singapore" to justify the setting up of a Farmhouse Supermarket in Singapore soon.

PKR Strategic Director Rafizi Ramli had first exposed the fact that NFCorp may be using public funds to expand into the supermarket business in Singapore which are owned directly by the directors of NFCorp and not by NFCorp itself.

Rafizi has today responded by questioning NFCorp on the basis of expansion overseas when it was the objective of the NFCorp to fulfill 40% of the local beef demand.  At the moment NFCorp is barely scratching 1% of the local market demands, hence any investments for overseas exports is not only premature, but also contrary of the objectives set out in the government's RM250 million loan agreement to the company.

I would further add the fact that opening a "supermarket" is a completely different business from that of "exporting" beef, even if such exports were indeed justified.  Sale of beef and beef products in such a supermarket would only  contribute a miniscule percentage of overall product sales and will do very little towards increasing the demand for beef from Malaysia in Singapore.

If promoting beef from NFCorp is indeed the overriding objective in setting up the Farmhouse Supermarket, then Datuk Seri Muhammed Salleh either completely lacks business sense or is lying through his teeth to justify the use of public funds.

What is perhaps most damning, is that a check with the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore has shown that there is no approval to import raw beef from Malaysia.  At this point of time, only "processed beef" such as sausages, patties, meatballs, smoked meat etc., are approved for selected companies.  Even so, only 5 companies are approved and they are Mac Food Sdn Bhd, Nestle Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, PAP Cashnet Sdn Bhd, Unilever Bestfoods Sdn Bhd and Lucky Food Processing Sdn Bhd.

NFCorp has not  been given any approval to export its beef or processed meat to Singapore.  Hence how can Muhammed Salleh claim that the setting up of Farmhouse Supermarket, which is already about to open for business, be in the interest of promoting NFCorp's "Gemas Gold"?  Is this not a clear case of putting the cart before the cows?

Most importantly, the allegation that part of the RM250 million loan to NFCorp was utilized to set up Farmhouse Supermarket, which is directly owned by the family of Minister of Women and Family Development, Datuk Sharizat Abd Jalil has yet been answered by NFCorp.  Such diversion of funds from the NFCorp is clearly in breach of the Loan Agreement and the Companies Act 1965.

Datuk Seri Muhammed Salleh should not be distracted from the core issue of criminal breach of trust and must be held accountable to the tax-payers who are funding the operations of NFCorp.

Attorney-General Objected to West Coast Expressway Contract?

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 03:02 AM PST

The Malay Mail cover an exclusive story on the fact that the Attorney-General "is of the opinion the terms of agreement for the project, which has seen its cost balloon, are not in the public interest" on Monday, 27 February 2012.

According to the report, "Government sources tell The Malay Mail Abdul Gani had expressed reservations over the terms, which seem to heavily favour the highway concessionaire, WCE Sdn Bhd, a 64.2 per cent subsidiary of Kumpulan Europlus Bhd… Abdul Gani has put the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the relevant agencies and ministries such as the Malaysian Highway Authority, the Finance Ministry and the Works Ministry on notice over his reservations on the 316km-long highway that will link Banting in Selangor to Taiping, Perak, where 224km will be tolled."

Allegedly, according to their source, 'despite immense pressure to sign the legal documents, the A-G has informed the stakeholders he wants to review the terms of the agreement."

Assuming that the Malay Mail front-page report is spot on, then the Prime Minister must immediately answer as to why the Government is insistent on awarding the new WCE concession to Kumpulan Europlus via direct negotiation which has seen the cost of the project inflate excessively.

The cost of the expressway was RM3.0 billion when it was first awarded without tender in 2007 but further "negotiations" between the Government and the concessionaire has increased the cost to RM7.1 billion when it was re-awarded last month.  In addition, the concession period has been increased from 33 years originally to 60 years, a record for highway privatisation projects in Malaysia.

What is perhaps unacceptable is the fact that despite such attractive terms, the Government still have to provide RM2.24 billion of soft loans to the concessionaire, as well as up to 3% interest-subsidy for commercial loans secured.  The Government will also bear the cost of all land-acquisition, estimated at RM1 billion.

If the Malay Mail report is indeed true, then we call upon the A-G to do all necessary within his powers to ensure that the Government receives a fair bargain, and to avoid a repeat of many costly mistakes made by the Government in privatisation projects such as the RM12.5 billion Port Klang Free Zone scandal, toll highways which generates astronomical profits for the concessionaires such as the RM5.9 billion PLUS and the RM1.3 billion LDP.

What is shocking is the fact that the project is being awarded to a company with very poor financial record over the past few years.  Kumpulan Europlus earned revenues of RM50 million and RM28 million in the last 2 financial years of 2010 and 2011 respective.  Besides the small revenue base compared with the RM7.1 billion project, the company also made losses of RM35 million and RM46 million in the past 2 years.

Dato' Seri Najib Razak must walk the talk of "economic transformation" by implementing all the reforms on transparency and accountability that his administration has been preaching over the past 3 years.  He must not "over-rule" the opinions of the A-G to ensure that the people's interest comes first and the tax-payers' are not excessively burdened.  Instead, the Prime Minister must disclose in full the basis of the award of WCE to Kumpulan Europlus, as well as the financial justifications for the soft-loan, interest-subsidy, 4.1 billion increase in the cost of the highway as well as the 27-year extension of the concession.  Most importantly, the Government, in the interest of transparency, must disclose the proposed toll rates which will be imposed on motorists to justify such lucrative terms to the concessionaire.

Otherwise, all the talk of "economic transformation" which Najib has been "selling" to both local and foreign investors will be seen as just political rhetoric, and the Prime Minister will soon be branded by businessmen all over the world as the one who just could not deliver the promised changes.

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 08:41 PM PST

Shocking RM2.52 Billion Losses In 2011 Suffered By MAS Marks A Spiralling Dive Of No Return For Our National Carrier Unless Failed Policies Are Replaced With Professional Management, Results-Oriented Work Ethic And A New Business Model Based On CAT (en/bm/cn)

Press Statement by DAP Secretary-General and MP for Bagan Lim Guan Eng in Kuala Lumpur on 1.3.2012

Shocking RM2.52 Billion Losses In 2011 Suffered By MAS Marks A Spiralling Dive Of No Return For Our National Carrier Unless Failed Policies Are Replaced With Professional Management, Results-Oriented Work Ethic And A New Business Model Based On Competency, Accountability and Transparency(CAT)

The shocking net loss of RM2.52 billion for 2011 recorded by national carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is a stark reminder of how mismanagement and a failed business model has caused a crisis in the once-reputable and proud airline with its cash reserves almost bled dry.In fact, MAS has been on a downward spiral since the departure of now Minister in the Prime Minister Department Dato' Seri Idris Jala in 2009, with its net profit of RM490 million in 2009 to RM234 million in 2010 plunging tragically to the record breaking staggering losses of RM2.52 billion in 2011.

These losses suffered are a far cry from a few years ago when Dato' Seri Idris Jala was tasked to revitalise MAS as CEO. He was appointed in 2005 and was able to turn the company around to record a profit of RM850 million in 2007 against a loss of RM1.3 billion two years before that. Why is it that Dato' Seri Idris was able to turn aroudn MAS and leave it in healthier conditions but all his hard work has been undone? Do we need Dato' Seri Idris Jala back at the MAS cockpit to save the doomed airline?

In addition to the stark losses, MAS's cash reserves more than halved to RM1 billion at the end of last year from RM2.1 billion at the end of 2010 while net assets dropped from RM3.5 billion to RM1.1 billion. In other words, MAS is no longer flying on fuel but instead is now flying on fumes. This is the legacy of a piratisation deal disguised as privatisation and subsequent re-nationalisation gone awry. Even 2001 bailout in which the Federal Government paid double the market price at the time could not rescue MAS from its fundamental problems. The Federal Government paid RM1.8 billion or RM8 per share to Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli instead of the market value of RM3.68 at the time.

MAS can not blame prevailing poor global economic conditions. In contrast Singapore Airlines managed to record profits last year. In fact, we need not even look that far as even local budget carrier Air Asia has been able to outdo MAS by miles. One need only to look at Air Asia's current market capitalization which stands at RM10.1 billion, compared to MAS at RM4.8 billion. Air Asia, despite being only a decade old and far smaller in operations, is worth more than double in market capitalisation!

There must be something wrong when a budget airline that charges far lesser fares can make more money than an airline that charges more. The viability of our national airline is in question until and unless the fundamental issues are resolved. Is it a question of a failed business model or management failure, or both?

Clearly, the only way to prevent our national asset from plunging into a fatal crash is to engage a new business model based on the principles of Competency, Accountability and Transparency which has served the Penang State Government well. Not only have we been able to impress and attract investors by being the top manufacturing investment destination in Malaysia for two consecutive years running in 2010 and 2011, Penang has also been able to record budget surpluses every year since 2008 and have shaved our state government debts by 95% from RM630 million to RM30 million.

The current business model employed by MAS is clearly a failed one. If MAS continues to subscribe to the old centrally-planned model and political interference that breed corruption and inefficiency, our national carrier is doomed.

Finally, the question that Malaysians demand to know is who will be held accountable for such a loss? Surely RM2.52 billion losses by our national airline is unacceptable to everyone in the country, especially when the reason it was renationalised in the first place was to rescue it from the afflictions of mismanagement and a poor business model. The government must identify those responsible for such huge losses and take action against them as the people expect nothing less from a responsible government.

Kenyataan Akhbar oleh Setiausaha Agung DAP dan Ahli Parlimen Bagan Lim Guan Eng di Kuala Lumpur pada 1.3.2012

Kerugian Mengejutkan Sebanyak RM2.52 Bilion Yang Dialami Oleh MAS Untuk Tahun 2011 Akan Menjunamkan Syarikat Penerbangan Kebangsaan Melainkan Dasar-Dasar Yang Gagal Digantikan Dengan Pengurusan Profesional, Etika Kerja Yang Berorientasikan Hasil Dan Model Bisnes Baru Yang Berdasarkan Prinsip Cekap, Akauntabel Dan Telus (CAT).

========Mandarian Translation ==================

Why Should The Concession Of Penang Bridge Be Extended By 17 Years From The Abolition Of Toll In 2021 To 2038 Just To Avoid Paying The Toll Increases Of 10% Every 5 Years?(en/bm/cn)

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 12:58 AM PST

Speech By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng During The PR Penang Youth Toll Debate At Dewan Besar Sungai Dua Hall in Teluk Air Tawar, Penang On 29.2.2012 Released On 1.3.3012.

I am disappointed that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop failed to accept a public debate in his constituency tonight on whether the abolition of toll on the North-South Expressway(NSE) and Penang Bridge would bankrupt the nation.

Malaysia would not go bankrupt if PR abolish the NSEW and Penang Bridge toll should we win the next general elections. Malaysia would go bankrupt because of corruption, abuse of power and cronyism.

I had also wanted to ask Tan Sri Nor on the toll revision deal. Why the Federal government victimized Penang by extending the concession period for Penang Bridge by 17 years until 2038 and Butterworth-Kulim Expressway(BKE) by 11 years until 2038, in exchange for a freeze on toll hikes(see table below). For BKE the freeze on toll hikes is until 2015, a toll hike of 5% will have to be paid every 3 years from 2016.

TOLL COMPENSATION WAIVER ~ REVISED CONCESSION TERMS

Abolishing the NSE and Penang Bridge will not bankrupt the nation but is morally and ethically right. What is most unconscionable and unfair to the rakyat is that the toll operators of NSE and Penang Bridge are reaping obscenely high profits where they have more than recouped their original investments of construction cost.

In a written parliamentary reply to me, the toll operator for NSE spent RM 5,945 million to construct the NSE but has received RM 24,266 million in toll receipts and government compensation as at 31.12.2010. In other words the NSE toll operator has recorded a surplus of RM 18,321 million as at 31.12.2010 over his investment outlay.

Is there any need for the NSE toll operator to collect any more tolls from the public much less increase toll fares? By right and in the rakyat's interest, toll collection in the NSE should be stopped immediately in view that the revenue returns of RM 18.3 billion are 3 times more than the original investment of RM 6 billion.

The situation is similar for Penang Bridge which has collected RM 1,859 million but spent RM 944 million on construction cost, enjoying a surplus of RM 924 million. For BKE, toll collection amounts to RM 340 million on construction cost of RM 256 million, recording a surplus of RM 84 million. Instead of paying until 31 December 2038, Penangites should not be paying any toll at all in the Penang Bridge and the BKE.

Maximum RM50 Billon Cost For Abolishing Both NSE And Penang Bridge Will Not Bankrupt Malaysia.
Abolishing both NSE and Penang Bridge costs a maximum of RM50 billion, RM R40 billion for the NSE and RM10 billion for the Penang Bridge. RM50 billion will not bankrupt the nation. It is corruption, abuse of power and cronyism that will bankrupt the nation. After all the new MRT project costs more than RM50 billion.

Malaysia can afford RM 50 billion to abolish tolls in Penang Bridge and NSE but not corruption that costs more than USD100 billion(RM35 billion). The Global Financial Integrity Report highlighted that illicit(black) money secretly taken out of Malaysia during the lost "decade of corruption" from 2000-2009 amounted to RM 1,077 billion.

Tan Sri Nor should also explain how the revision deal of extension of the Penang Bridge toll concession from 2021 to 2038 in exchange for no toll hikes of 10% indeed benefits Penangites. Given a choice, Penangites would be willing to suffer 10% increases in toll hikes every 5 years in exchange for the toll ending on 31.12.2021 than wait until 31.12.2038 even though no toll hikes are imposed.

Similarly for the BKE, Penangites would be willing to pay 15-25% toll hike every 5 years until 27.6.2026 than continue paying until 31.12.2038. BKE is even worse than the Penang Bridge as there will be toll hikes of 5% for every 3 years after 2016 instead of every 5 years.

This revision deal of extension of the toll concession until 2038 in exchange for waiving government compensation of RM6.5 billion was done without consultation with the people and benefits only the toll operators at the expense of Penangites and Malaysians.

Ucapan Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Lim Guan Eng semasa Debat PR Pulau Pinang di Dewan Besar Sungai Dua di Teluk Air Tawar, Pulau Pinang pada 29.2.2012 dan disiarkan pada 1.3.2012

Kenapakah Tempoh Konsesi Jambatan Pulau Pinang Dilanjutkan 17 Tahun Dari 2021 Ke 2038 Hanya Untuk Mengelak Daripada Membayar Kenaikan Toll 10% Setiap Lima Tahun?

PENGECUALIAN PAMPASAN TOL ~ SEMAKAN SEMULA TERMA KONSESI

Tumpu PRU13, jangan terperangkap titik bengik

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 04:34 AM PST

PIMPINAN TERTINGGI PAS MESTI ISLAM

Posted: 29 Feb 2012 07:45 PM PST

- Sinar Harian

PKNS, LZS BAWA SINAR BAHAGIA

Posted: 29 Feb 2012 07:28 PM PST

PKNS

Bantuan ditanggung penuh PKNS

Turut hadir, Timbalan Pengurus Besar (Pentadbiran dan Pembangunan) PKNS, Noraida Mohd Yusof, Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Lembaga Zakat Selangor, Mohamed Izam Mohamed Yusof, Ketua Penolong Pegawai Daerah (Pembangunan) Sabak Bernam, Jasman Syazry Mohd

Peruntukan RM2.2 juta wang zakat

Tanggungjawab sosial korporat (CSR) PKNS

RENT DEFAULTERS MAY BE ASSIGNED TO GUARD LIFTS

Posted: 29 Feb 2012 03:13 PM PST

PETALING JAYA, 2 December 2011 : Mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said about RM4 million is spent yearly for the repair and maintenance of public housing scheme (PPR) flats in the city. To compound matters, rentals owed by occupants have reached about RM5 million.

rent

A vandalised lift with its missing button panel in PPR Lembah Subang.

He added the council is thinking of safeguarding the PPR facilities, such as the lifts, by getting flat owners who default on their RM124 monthly rentals to become "security guards".

"Maybe those who default on their flat rentals should be assigned to guard the flats' lifts. The lifts at these flats are very important to the residents. Most of the time, they break down due to improper use and vandalism.

"These flats do not belong to the council but the council is paying for their maintenance. We should think of a way to make sure the facilities are well guarded," said the mayor.

He added that PPR Lembah Subang has eight blocks of flats with three lifts at each block. PPR Kota Damansara has four blocks of flats with also three lifts in each block. Both  flats are known for their high rate of vandalism.

Recently, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim visited two PPR flats in Section 8 Kota Damansara and Lembah Subang.

The residents had complained the council did not do a good job in maintaining the flat facilities such as the water tank and lifts.

"It is a norm for residents living in these flats to keep the motorbikes in their units. They fear their vehicles will be stolen. Residents also bring the bikes to their units using the lifts and this results in the lifts  breaking down," he said. - NST

As I see it, it is all convenient creative accounting.

Take a hit in 2011. Charge provisions for 2012 expenses and some mysterious expenses in the 2011 books and:

1. Justifies the illogical actions already taken.

2. Justifies the harsh actions planned.

3. When 2012 ends, a nice recovery (comparing to 2011) can easily be shown.

Oldest trick in the books.

we MAS staff do admit that we break record of “rugi bersih” but do u read btw the line why staff did not support the current mgmt?

back in 2005, MAS also loss RM 1.2B but we come back strong and make record profit of RM 800++ mil in 2007. however, MAS also hold world record for highest turnover of MD and each MD do their own plan. how on earth MAS to make profit/business ifd every 2-3 years new MD come if and change everything????????????? that yet to include “social/politic obligation” that MAS need to face

is not cause of racist or we are not that stupid to understand the concept of P&L. if u are so informative, just tell us the info rather give general info like that….seem that u hv no idea what actually transpire in MAS right now…..

the simple fact is as-to-date, the current mgmt yet to come clean with staff what is the business plan. the business plan must have certain target, way to achieve and timeline to achieve that target. what AJ presented to us just a general BP…yet never reveal to us what is the expected $$$ from these plan, how to achieve and when. this is the basis info yet we are still kept in the dark…. or AJ/danny still on “try-and-error” mode????? do u know that AJ never make solid decision and always flip-flop in decision making… say 1 thing today, another thing tomorrow.. how to work with this kind of boss??????

if AJ want support of the staff, pls transparent with us…JUST THAT… is that too much to ask??????????????

staff will definitely will support AJ if he has solid business plan as it involve our “periuk nasik”

The number of misinformed people commenting on this thread is mind-boggling.

Elsewhere, airlines make losses. They suck it up, carry out remedial measures and move on.

Like Japan Airlines went into bankruptcy, cut a large number of routes and employees and emerged stronger and leaner.

Or how Qantas CEO Alan Joyce faced down his unions and is pushing through a major restructuring exercise that could see some 5,000 employees lose their jobs.

Ditto for British Airlines, Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and airlines in the US.

In short, wherever airlines are treated as commercial enterprises, subject to unfettered competition and the vicissitudes of the market.

But in Malaysia? Oh, no. Here every issue takes on a nasty racist slant, the profit motive is openly denigrated and the logic of competition and free markets blissfully ignored.

RM2.5 Billion lost after AJ & Dannyboy take over 6 months ago? What are the consultants & new top managers AJ & Dannyboy hired to do doing? Clearly show that they, AJ & Dannyboy dont know what they are doing! What I heard from friends in MAS is that what the consultants is doing is only shouting & scolding at the staff. Is that how a consultant behave when they are paid millions to help the staff in crisis? the staff are not the slaves. They are customers of the consultants. I think the consultants name Plane Consult really means Plainly Conartist! The new top managers Aj hired also cant come up with a business plan because they also dont know what to do & AJ said they come with experienced from many foreign airlines & big companies? What waste of money! The retired & curent MAS staff will know what to do better. Good Luck to Anti Suap, Dr. Don Juan & Tansri Abdol Aziz in your fight!

Like Time Traveller said Why AJ needs Martin Barrow as adviser? What aviation exeprience does Mr MB have? All the facts show that MB was in MAS Board of Directors for 10 years until last year when he, Munir & his friends in Board of Directors was replaced by Tony, Dannyboy & more new faces without experience in airline business. If in the last 10 years MB didnt do his job (which contribute to RM1 Billion loss sometime last year) why does Aj think that MB can help make profits? It is so shameful that Aj cant do his job & didnt do a due diligence check on MB before appointing him as adviser! Taking MB as adviser for aircraft safety is rediculous when MAS already has very good air safety record for 50 years under the internal Air Safety Team boss Dr Ooi. Coming from London with only GCE certificate (like SPM) did MB helped MAS to get more slots or better parking area in Heathrow? I think Mb is only good if AJ is looking for adviser to buy for MAS some wheel-barrows!

With all these new advisers & consultants giving wrong advise & conning MAS staff, PM & public, where is the comments from the government appointed adviser? Being a former PM he must be making statements & point out wrong doings. Just like the other government appointed adviser to a national car company. Or like what the MAS staff say is he adviser in name only? Or is TF & AJ ignoring him like what the previous boss of a national car company did to the other adviser?

Wake up PM! If you are proud of what your father do to Felda then you must also proud your father started MAS when Malaysia Singapore Airlines broke-up. So if you can look at Felda (not because of voters), please look at MAS too (also not because of voters in Subang, Sepang, Shah Alam area). Do it because it is the 1Malaysia national flag carrier!

If you are the MD/CEO of a company, wouldn’t you have asked your management on the huge increase of staff cost? The number should have alarmed you as the MD that it warrants explanation. This shows to prove that the MAS MD did not see it as alarming and hence did not ask his people for an expanation and that’s why he was clueless himself yesterday. And surely there are monthly financial accounts that have alerted the company on the huge staff cost. There has been no significant increase in the number of staff and there was no payment of bonus too, so the huge staff cost is very surprising. Unless of course certain people appointed got a HUGE salary and employment package that we didnt know of. Or then again, the numbers are just made up…..
Since MD said he would come back with an answer soon, hope the unions and associations can follow up on this and make public the explanation via email to all staff. And this should be done within 24 hours.
