Focus on the family

Posted: 22 Apr 2011 10:07 AM PDT

This month, my focus turns to families. Focus on the Family Malaysia, a smart partner of the National Population & Family Development Board (LPPKN) approached my office and asked if I was keen to participate in their Couple Checkup program. This Couple Checkup (details of which you can find in the column below) is now made available to residents of DUN Subang Jaya for free!! (the ordinary price is RM60 per couple). I am once again channelling the state allocation provided by the Selangor State Government for programs in Subang Jaya back to the people. It is my hope that married couples would seize this opportunity to participate in this program. The Checkup report would be given to each couple to assist them in improving and enriching their marriage.

Marriage is the oldest and most sanctified institution in our society. Subang Jaya residents are often busy with work, activities for their children and friends. Sometimes these can cause stress on our marriages. I am married too, so I understand the demands of work which can subtly come in between husband and wife. When marriages are healthy and fulfilling, we become more productive in our work and our children will be blessed. A stressed marriage can have negative impact on our children.

I am constantly finding ways to improve the lifestyle of residents in this constituency. Whilst MPSJ focuses on improving infrastructure facilities, I hope to play my part in improving the areas less talked about (which are equally important to a thriving neighbourhood).

So please make full use of these benefits, limited to first 100 married couples only. You will need to sign up at my office (both husband and wife). Addresses must be verified to confirm that you're a resident in this constituency and then collect a voucher which provides the password for the test to be done. You will be given private space to do this test in my office. Contact person is my assistant, Debbie Phang - debbie@dapsj.com

Whether you're newly married or will be celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary, this test will benefit you! Suitable for all races.

LDP oh LDP...

Posted: 22 Apr 2011 09:47 PM PDT

Lately, LDP's Datuk Chin Su Phin has been making outrageous statements in the media. He seems to be hell bent to replace YAB Datuk Seri Musa Aman as a Chief Minister of Sabah.

Here's my take on the issue.

(1) Deputy President of LDP is free to raise any issue in BN supreme council meeting. This is not the first time nor last Datuk Chin Su Phin wants to bring his personal grouses to the Prime Minister's attention.
But as I see it, the Prime Minister and his deputy, on so many occasions, have publicly shown their appreciation toward the tireless efforts made by the state government and the Chief Minister in ensuring all communities in Sabah are not left out from the unprecedented economic growth and creating political stability for the state.

But a word of advice. Apportioning blame when you see the Prime Minister will be met with cold stares. It is just not his favourite subject.

(2) Instead of continuosly running down the popular Chief Minister for his personal gains, I advice Chin Su Phin to start preparing his party for the general elections. There is a lot to be done and time is not on our side.

Actually there is a lot to expect from a Deputy President of a component party.

First of all, he must carry that position with observation of decorum. A Deputy President must be seen as a debonair gentleman, with a degree of political sophistication and correctitude.

(3) At a working level, as a Deputy President, he must increase voters registration, increase membership drive, conduct dry-runs, do "kajian sikap" for his party. Chin must go down to the areas where his party hold incumbencies and listen and solve the rakyat's problems. Have these been done? If not, I am afraid the risk of his party being seen as an "easy meat" by the DAP in the next elections will be very real indeed.

I am sure Chin Su Phin will not want to be desribed as a trigger happy cowboy who walks into the high-noon duel and starts shooting from the hip, not knowing his bullet ricochets and hits him back in the head. That would be a political suicide.

Tunnel - Ara Damansara Traffic problem resolved

Posted: 22 Apr 2011 08:30 PM PDT

THOUSANDS of motorists were relieved because the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) did not close the FAS tunnel in Petaling Jaya Utara yesterday as planned but instead will turn it into a one-way traffic flow.

The council has accepted the suggestion of Ara Damansara residents of turning the two-way tunnel into a one-way flow to allow only traffic from the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP).

Traffic from Ara Damansara will now need to use the Megah Mas tunnel to exit into LDP.

The move is to also alleviate the suffering of residents in Taman Kelana Idaman, near the FAS tunnel.

What a relief: The missing link between Ara Damansara and Tropicana is finally ready.

The council was compelled to close the tunnel due to complaints from Taman Kelana Idaman residents who have to face the high volume of traffic right at their doorsteps every day.

It is hoped that turning the tunnel into a one-way flow and directing the traffic around Ara Damansara into one big loop will be a win-win situation for all stakeholders.

There is another reason for motorists to be happy because contractors appointed by the council had completed the major work on the missing link between Ara Damansara and Tropicana.

Work on road kerbs, markings and walkways are expected to complete by next Wednesday.

MBPJ councillor Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainudin said the council had budgeted RM300,000 for the road but in the end needed to pay less.

"Traffic is so bad for Taman Kelana Idaman residents that they cannot come out from their houses. Heavy vehicles also zoom past daily and have even knocked down the height bars put up several times.

"We can imagine their frustration," he added. He also advised FAS tunnel users to give way to residents when they need to exit from their houses.

"However, the problems faced by Ara Damansara residents are also real.

"MBPJ took note of their plight and discussed their recommendations with a traffic consultant.

"It was eventually agreed the tunnel be turned into a one-way flow and a set of traffic lights be installed at the cross junction to ease congestion," he added.

Khairul said MBPJ would also build more road humps and a divider to prevent motorists from using Taman Kelana Idaman as a shortcut.

No date has been fixed for the implementation of the new traffic system.

Damansara resident Y.K. Lee expressed gratitude to the council on behalf of his neighbours for taking their feedback into consideration. He also thanked the councillor for his effort in trying to resolve the matter.

Rent-Seeking a-la-NEM?

Najib and Pemandu must come clean with the "1Malaysia Email Project" details by revealing all terms and conditions of the concession awarded to Tricubes Berhad, and stop digging a deeper hole for themselves with flip-flopping answers

It is almost comical the way our Prime Minister, Datuk Najib Abdul Razak and Pemandu officials are heaping layers of misleading and contradictory statements in an attempt to cover up the "1Malaysia email project" fiasco.

First, Pemandu had to take the trouble to edit the description of the project from a "government initiative" to a "private sector initiative", despite the fact that Tricubes Bhd has announced on Bursa Malaysia that it was awarded the email project by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu).

Then, Datuk Seri Najib Razak had to assure Malaysians via Twitter that the much-criticised project would not be funded by the government and nor made compulsory.

However, in a radio interview with BFM yesterday, business services NKEA communications content and infrastructure director Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek disclosed that government agencies will pay Tricubes Bhd to use the company's 1Malaysia e-mail database.

Fadhlullah Suhaimi said he expected agencies to pay Tricubes about 50 sen per e-mail, "cheaper than the RM1.00 printing, stationery, postage and dispatch cost of sending a regular letter."

This disclosure comes as a complete shock to Malaysians because the Prime Minister has assured us that the Government will not be paying a sen for the project! And yet, it is now obvious that the "1Malaysia email project" is a scheme designed to fleece tax-payers monies with a service that is completely unnecessary.

The fact of the matter is the creation of an "official email" account is absolutely unnecessary in "official" dealings with the Government. At this point of time, even Maybank and Citibank are able to send my monthly bank and credit card account statements to my Yahoo or Gmail accounts. I also have no problems receiving my monthly mobile phone bills from Digi Telecommunications. The signing up of a "1Malaysia" account is not only a hassle, it is clearly a barrier created specifically for certain parties to profit.

While Dr Fadhlullah tried hard to justify the project by claiming that Government agencies will only pay 50 sen for each email sent via the 1Malaysia email account as opposed to RM1 for cost of printing and postage, he failed to explain why 50 sen should even be paid when banks and telecommunication companies pay absolutely nothing to send us our bills and statements today without having to set up "special" email accounts!

Clearly the design and nature of the "1Malaysia email project" is to create an artificial need for a concession to provide rent-seeking opportunities for companies which may find it difficult to provide real value-added services in a competitive environment.

Given that the Prime Minister and Pemandu officials have been tripping over each other to provide flip-flopping explanations which repeatedly contradict each other, Pemandu must to the right thing and disclose in full the contract awarded to Tricubes Berhad so that the public can know the full truth.

The failure of Pemandu to do so will only make a mockery of its own Government Transformation Programme (GTP) which calls for the elimination of rent-seeking while increasing transparency and accountability. Pemandu should protect its reputation by calling a spade a spade, and call for the withdrawal of the project which has without a doubt, become an international embarrassment for the Najib administration.

MCA should dissolve itself

DAP dares MCA to dissolve and call for Najib's resignation
By Clara Chooi April 21, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — The DAP challenged MCA leaders today to dissolve their party or call on the prime minister to resign should he lose Chinese community support in the coming general election.
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang charged that the MCA was being hypocritical in calling for Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud's resignation due to his failure to deliver the Chinese vote last week, pointing out that the MCA itself had performed no better in Election 2008.

In the Sarawak state polls last Saturday, Barisan Nasional (BN) lost 16 seats to the opposition, most of them Chinese-majority urban seats.

In Election 2008, MCA suffered its worst ever electoral defeat when it saw its parliamentary representation cut by more than half from 31 to just 15 seats.

"Now they are asking Taib to resign on grounds that he lost the Chinese vote. Will they apply the same standard to PM (Datuk Seri) Najib (Razak)?

"And why is MCA still in the Cabinet? Why was MCA's president (Datuk Seri Dr) Chua Soi Lek so keen on securing his son (Chua Tee Yong) a deputy minister's post?" Lim asked.

DAP publicity chief Tony Pua, who led the party's campaign in Sarawak, agreed, saying that the MCA should "dissolve" itself for having failed in its purpose of representing the Chinese community.

"If you are talking about support based on race, the MCA has failed to represent the Chinese. So their organisation is completely irrelevant. They should dissolve themselves," he said.

Lim and Pua were responding to a statement by MCA vice-president Gan Ping Sieu yesterday calling for Taib's resignation due to the outcome of Saturday's polls.

The DAP leaders also berated MCA's Loh Seng Kok for "insulting the intelligence of Sarawak voters" when he claimed the Chinese community had been duped into voting for the opposition for racial reasons.

"They are insulting their intelligence because Sarawak voters, all those who supported DAP, were voting for the Pakatan Rakyat (PR). They were voting for new politics which surpasses racial boundaries," said Lim.

Pua said it was the SUPP which had played the race card.
He pointed out that the outcome of the Sarawak polls had not only shown an increase in Chinese community support towards the DAP but an improvement in support from all communities towards PR as a pact.
This, he said, was mirrored in how the opposition had managed to increase its popular vote from 37 per cent in 2006 to 45.5 per cent or 300, 288 votes while BN managed to secure 54.5 per cent or 372, 379 votes.

"MCA and Gerakan leaders are feeling so aggrieved that they were treated with utter contempt in Sarawak that they are making these nonsensical statements.

"It is their way to vent their anger. They should know their days are numbered unless they change and rise above racial politics," said Lim.

Pua also pointed out that it was the MCA's parallel, the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP), that had played the race card in the polls in order to convince people to reject the opposition.

In its campaign, the SUPP had warned Sarawakians that they would lose Chinese representation in the state Cabinet if they voted for the DAP.

On April 16, however, the DAP scored an electoral upset by winning 12 of the 15 seats it contested, most of them Chinese-majority urban seats.

The SUPP was nearly wiped out when the party, which claims to represent the Chinese, won in just six of the 19 seats it contested, only two of which were Chinese majority while the rest were Dayak seats.

"I want to challenge MCA to point out when and where in our entire campaign in Sarawak were we racist? Go back to school and learn what racism is.

"Fighting corruption, abuse of power and nepotism is not racism. These issues cut across the races and if MCA thinks they are racist, they should evaluate their own party constitution which prohibits other races from taking part in their organisation," said Pua.

Lim agreed, pointing out that the MCA and Gerakan were largely to blame for the SUPP's fall in Sarawak as leaders for both the peninsula-based BN partners had joined in the election campaign.

"The real reason why SUPP did so badly was because of the assistance rendered by MCA and Gerakan leaders who have only served to highlight the need for the country to rise above race and go for new politics. Since peninsula voters have rejected Gerakan and MCA, the Sarawak voters are doing the same.

"Nobody cared about them in Sarawak. Not just that, they were treated like garbage and with utter contempt," he said.

Posted: 22 Apr 2011 07:09 AM PDT

Article published on the Website of Chinese newspaper Sinchew.com.my

5-storey bookstore in Nanjing. Found many books I couldn't get in Malaysia. Bought 20 books with RM250!

BURU GURU SOKONG PEMBANGKANG, KEBAJIKAN GURU TERABAI

Posted: 22 Apr 2011 03:16 AM PDT

AHLI KELUARGA TIDAK PUAS HATI..apa kisah sebenarnya?

Posted: 21 Apr 2011 07:53 PM PDT

"Kami sekeluarga tetap mempersoalkannya, siasatan macam tak begitu menyeluruh... kami memang tahu Allahyarham jatuh dari tempat tinggi tapi atas sebab apa dia jatuh?

Jelas Zulkifli, punca kematian ditentukan selepas siasatan terperinci membabitkan pelbagai pihak termasuk polis, Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia dan Jabatan Kimia.

Just Do It Chua Soi Lek! Tell UMNO To Direct Its Paper Utusan Malaysia To Withdraw The 1Melayu, 1 Bumi Movement Or MCA Would Withdraw From BN.

Posted: 21 Apr 2011 08:52 PM PDT

Will MCA President Dato Seri Chua Soi Lek dare to ask UMNO to direct its paper Utusan Malaysia to withdraw and apologise to all Malaysians for practicing a form of apartheid by inciting racial segregation and hatred in calling for 1Melayu, 1 Bumi movement? Just Do It, Chua Soi Lek. Tell UMNO to direct Utusan Malaysia to withdraw and apologise for the 1Melayu, 1Bumi movement or MCA would withdraw from BN.

UMNO's paper call for 1Melayu, 1Bumi movement is a grievous insult to all Malaysians because it serves to be exclusive and dominate other races to the extent of reducing these Malaysian citizens, including non-Malay bumis from East Malaysia, as 2nd or 3rd-class citizens.

DAP and PR parties have never fought any elections on the basis of Malay unity, Chinese unity, Iban unity or Kadazan unity. Instead it is BN parties that tries to divide and rule by stressing on Malay unity, Chinese unity or Indian unity and merely paying lip service to bangsa Malaysia. At every election DAP and PR parties have stressed on Malaysian unity.

As a result of SUPP losing 12 seats to DAP in the recent Sarawak general elections, Utusan Malaysia is launching the 1Melayu,1 bumi movement as a lesson to teach those who voted for the opposition, particularly the Chinese community. Like BN, Utusan Malaysia is trying to racialise the election results even though DAP won because of support from all communities in Sarawak. Facts and figures do not lie and have shown that the swing to the opposition amongst the non-Chinese voters is higher than the Chinese swing to the opposition.

However in order to hide the real reasons of their loss, namely corruption and demands for Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to step down, UMNO and Utusan Malaysia is pitting the results as a conflict between the Chinese community and the government.

Any failure by Chua to do so would show that he is a man who dares to admit his fault, dare to speak and dare to walk the talk is just an empty sandiwara devoid of substance. Just like Chua Soi Lek's call for SUPP to reject any cabinet posts in Sarawak because of losses in the Sarawak elections, is fundamentally flawed because of three reasons.

Firstly, massive voter disgruntlement in Sarawak is across the board and not directed towards the SUPP in particular, but instead towards the thirty-year rule of their Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, and the BN State Government in general.

Secondly, I am surprised that for someone with his experience, Chua Soi Lek appears to have missed the very obvious sentiment on the ground. Throughout the entire state, Sarawakians of every community are clamouring for 'change', and this has nothing to do with race.

If the MCA is so concerned about racial issues and truly believes in the principle of the exercise, then we wonder why they are not practising what they preach by insisting that their sole assemblymen in Perak and Negri Sembilan relinquish their Exco posts because the voters have clearly abandoned their party. This can also be said for MCA's four Cabinet Ministers.

In his latest remark, Chua Soi Lek claims that it was not his idea but former president Ong Tee Keat's to maintain the Cabinet positions. As Ong Tee Keat had correctly pointed out, it was Ong Ka Ting and not Ong Tee Keat who was president at the time. Ong also reminded Chua as MCA President, he can still direct MCA Ministers to withdraw from Cabinet and the sole MCA State EXCO in Perak and Negeri Sembilan respectively to resign. Clearly Chua Soi Lek is intent on playing internal MCA factional politics.

To date Chua has not dared to answer Ong Tee Keat. Why the silence? As someone who has always prided himself as a person who 'dares to speak up' or 'dares to admit the truth', he should now prove to all Malaysians that he also dares to walk the talk. Or else stop all these nonsense talk when he does not say what he means nor mean what he say.
