Snatch thieves mistake baby for bag

Posted: 16 Feb 2012 09:12 AM PST

3 days ago I held a press conference in my office for the victim of an attempted snatch theft. This incident happened at Persiaran Kewajipan. The press conference was intended to highlight the modus operandi of such cases and to warn the other road users to be wary of similar attacks. As a mother, I cringe just thinking of what the baby experienced and how traumatising it must have been for both mom and baby. I have already met the OCPD Tuan Yahaya Ramli in relation to this case and have requested for an increase of police presence on this road.

The victim's car

The weapon used

You may read more about it in the article in SJ Echo below or from the Malay Mail:

SUBANG JAYA: A 17-month old toddler nearly got whisked off from her baby seat in her mother's car by two men along Persiaran Kewajipan on Feb 10.

The two suspects who are still at large, had smashed the side window of the vehicle and reached out for the 'handbag' they thought was on the passenger seat only to realise it was a toddler.

Her mother Yap Yann Fang, 31 who was driving home to Damansara Idaman in Petaling Jaya from her babysitter's home in USJ1 at 9pm was left in shock with the incident.

'I had stopped at the traffic lights along Persiaran Kewajipan and in just a split second, my side window was smashed, scattering the glass all over me and my daughter Giselle.'

'The pillion reached out for Giselle only to realise it wasn't a handbag on my two-door vehicle passenger seat. They scooted off empty-handed,' she said during a press conference at ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh's office.

Yap said she was relieved that her toddler was secured to her baby seat and this had deterred the suspect from yanking her out of her seat.

'Both Giselle and I could only cry after the incident. When I regained my composure, I called my brother who told me to head for the nearest petrol kiosk.'

'I had to use a vacuum cleaner to remove all the glass pieces form Giselle's hair and clothes. I am glad we were not injured in the incident,' she said, adding that the incident had however robbed her of the right to feel secure in her own car.

Hannah said Yap's ordeal was the second incident along Persiaran Kewajipan in recent weeks.
'I would like to request for more police presence along this road especially near the Summit junction to deter crime.'

'Assailants appear to be targeting women drivers,' she said.

Yap and eight of her friends who were dressed in their white t-shirts bearing the message 'Say No to Snatch Theft' later held up placards and a banner to emphasise their point.

Tajudin Ramli Gets Off Scot Free

Posted: 16 Feb 2012 10:08 AM PST

he Government must disclose why it has decided to write off RM589 million of court ordered payment from Tan Sri Tajuddin Ramli and who is ultimately responsible for the losses

Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli has now gotten off scot free from his Court-ordered obligations to pay back to Pengurusan Danaharta Bhd, an agency 100% owned by the Ministry of Finance amounting to a whopping RM589.15 million excluding interest.

The High Court had in December 2009 rule in favour of Danaharta and its two subsidiaries on the on the full amount outstanding and had ordered Tajudin to pay an interest of 2% above the base lending rate of Malayan Banking Bhd until the date of full realisation.  The Court had also dismissed Tajudin's counterclaim to the tune of over RM14 billion excluding damages and cost.

Danaharta's claims are based on the claims that Tajudin had defaulted on a syndicated loan of RM1.792 billion, which he took in 1994 to acquire the Government's 32% stake in Malaysian Airlines System (MAS).

In Tajudin's defence, he claimed that he was never meant to be personally liable for the term loan as the government had agreed to an overriding agreement to indemnify him of any liability that arose from his acquisition of MAS shares from Bank Negara Malaysia.

Tajudin has also claimed that the then Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and then Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, "instructed" him to pay RM8 per share for MAS when the market price was around RM3.50.

However, in a shocking decision by the Government, Danaharta has been instructed to "settle" the suits in the Court of Appeal by completely writing off the outstanding debt from Tajudin Ramli and causing an immediately loss of RM589.15 million to the tax-payers' coffers.

The Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak must immediately explain why the BN government is writing off the entire debt and letting Tajudin off scot free without even defending itself in the Court of Appeal.  The decision smacks of sinister motives especially since the Government has already won its case in the High Courts.

The decision of the BN Government proves that it is intent on letting off its cronies easy despite having caused hundreds of millions of ringgit to the Government.  Where is Najib's "New Economic Model" where the Prime Minister declared to foreign investors that "the behaviour of rent-seeking and patronage will no longer be tolerated"?

Or is the settlement a result of the Government's agreement with the Tajudin defence that he is completely indemnified by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Daim Zainuddin from having to bear any responsibility for losses?

If the latter is the main reason, the Najib must immediately take actions against both the former prime minister and finance minister for not only gross negligence but having wilfully provided guarantees and indemnity to Tajuddin in the privatisation of MAS.

If the billions of ringgit of losses in PKFZ can result in both the former President and Deputy President of Malaysian Chinese Association, Tun Ling Liong Sik and Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy to be charge for misleading the cabinet in open court, surely then Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Daim Zainuddin must be similarly investigated for possibly providing illegal guarantees and indemnity their cronies.

It is clear from the above settlement, the BN Government has no political will to manage our treasury in any prudent fashion.  Large-scale leakages, corruption and wastages will continue under a BN government that is keen to promote cronyism and marginalise accountability.  Minister in the Prime Ministers' Department Datuk Idris Jala, has continuously warned of possibly bankruptcy if we fail to manage our finances prudently.  Should BN continue to rule after the next two elections, then Datuk Idris' warning might just come true.

MOH, Reveal 1Care Details To Rakyat Now!

Posted: 15 Feb 2012 11:18 PM PST

~ Media Statement by Teo Nie Ching

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai's criticism of members of the public who have voiced their concerns about the 1Care healthcare plan is unwarranted and misplaced.

In a press conference three day ago, the Health Minister slammed critics, saying that "there are certain quarters trying to manipulate the situation and trying to confuse the public".

First of all, there has been a total lack of transparency on the part of the Ministry of Health in handling this matter concerning the nation's healthcare system – an issue which affects the entire population of Malaysia.

Although a national healthcare plan was first mentioned in the 4th Malaysia Plan (1981 – 1985) and rebranded in 2009 as "1Care", the fact is that, until today, the Ministry of Health has refused to disclose any details of the plan.

Calun bukan Islam PAS

Katanya, namun sehingga akhir bulan lalu, dewan-dewan berkenaan masih juga belum berbuat demikian sehingga menyebabkan pihaknya masih lagi menunggu sehingga sekarang.

It Is A Sad Day for Malaysia When We Cannot Keep Our Best And Brightest Such As Former Petronas CEO Tan Sri Hassan Marican Who Is The Latest In The Growing Brain Drain List And Is Now Working Overseas In Singapore.(en/bm/cn)

Posted: 15 Feb 2012 11:15 PM PST

It was reported yesterday that former Petronas CEO Tan Sri Hassan Marican is set to be appointed chairman of Singapore Power Limited (SP) in June succeeding Ng Kee Choe who is retiring. Tan Sri Hassan left our national oil company in 2010 allegedly due to friction with the current administration, and has since been appointed as director in a number of foreign firms such as Singapore government-linked companies SembCorp Industries Ltd, SembCorp Marine Ltd and Singapore Power. He is also a director at Sarawak Energy Bhd and US oil and gas giant Conoco Philips.

It would appear that Tan Sri Hassan is internationally appreciated and highly sought after by big multinational corporations but not at home. This is extremely sad, especially when Tan Sri Hassan is widely credited as the man who turned Petronas into the leading international oil and gas company that it is today.

Last year,World Bank senior economist Philip Schellekens warned that the Malaysian brain drain situation is likely to intensify, further eroding the country's already narrow skills base. Schellekens added that the number of skilled Malaysians living abroad has tripled in the last two decades with two out of every 10 Malaysians with tertiary education opting to leave for either OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries or Singapore.

Now, Tan Sri Hassan has joined this growing list of nearly 2 million Malaysians who have left since Merdeka to live and work overseas. Talent such as Tan Sri Hassan Marican does not come by every day, and our Government must take immediate measures to plug this leak in order to retain such talent or risk losing him and many more like him to overseas countries.

It is a sad day for Malaysia when we cannot keep our best and brightest such as former Petronas CEO Tan Sri Hassan Marican who is the latest in the growing brain drain list and is now working overseas in Singapore. If even an iconic corporate leader like Tan Sri Hassan Marican's is forced to depart to Singapore, where his talents are not ignored, the Najib government's transformation programme to attract human talents is a failure.

Clearly so long as political know-who supersedes technical know-how, negotiated deals are preferred to open tenders and there is neither full accountability nor transparency, Malaysia is fighting a losing battle to stem the brain drain.

–BM Version–

Tahun lepas, pakar ekonomi kanan Bank Dunia, Philip Schellekens memberi amaran bahawa situasi penghijrahan bakat (brain drain) rakyat Malaysia dijangka meruncing tambahan asas kemahiran negara sememangnya sempit.

Flyguy,
If the exco lasts till next AGM and eyeing for the next term, we will do exactly as said. Evidences of 'malpractice' may be used during AGM. However for any human with self-respect or self-esteem, they already sacked themselves long time ago.

Pak Pandir,
If previously TF/AA was our enemy, now they are our paymaster. If Jabar is now in MASEU, Alias and Malek would be HC consultants' days after retirement. Perhaps to complement Khazanah's CCF.
Then, MASEU members will always become Lebai Malang!

Stop being an emperor apologist and keep on shifting the goal as the game is played. We are union members you are there to represent us the workers. If you expect us to lead then just resign en-block. Stop bullshitting.

Whatever the subscription paid is irrelevant. If you think that RM6 is peanut then stop collecting them. I am sure that the union leaders have more than enough resources to see them through by now.

Just carry on taking you Sleeping Pills. Just look at yourself at the mirror and ask yourself what have you done so far beside screaming about seeing the PM after so many months and the horse has bolted.

Tak malu kah? Telan Sleeping Pills begitu banyak? Rightly put, Dr MACC should give the shameful lots a good treatment. Of course, in the basement or any room without any window!

MH-J/ Recalcitrant

Not forgetting the forced migration of about 2000 staff from Subang to KLIA , which costs more than RM30 million. Reason given by AJ is that it is normal for an airline to be near an airport. Also to get rid of the ‘silos’ if everybody sits in one building instead of scatterred in different buildings. This kind of logic is mind-boggling.Also easier to call meetings, people do not have to come from far away. This AJ guy must be from a dinosaur era. People have to be in the same building to make meetings easier to conduct? He has never heard of emails, teleconferencing etc etc?
Or maybe this is all just a smokescreen to cover the REAL reason behind this migration? MAS offices in Subang happen to be located on very prime peices of land…….

Why are you surprised over AJ’s remarks about that Kutty fellow? Obviously HE didn’t know the complete details of Kutty’s work experience and whether that experience matched the vacancy MAS had. So, who then found Kutty for the job, which by the way, pays very very well, him being an expatriate and all, with a posh apartment thrown in at Sentral?.
The answer, as with all answers to questionable practices in MAS these past 6 months, can always be found and linked back to the AA factor. In this case, it is open knowledge that MAS hired PlaneConsult (one of 5 consultants in MAS currently) to do “organisational and process changes within Engineering, Commercial, Fleet Planning ad Flight/Ground Operations and OCC”. Big job.
All to be completed by 30 April 2012.
Back to Kutty. He is hired under “Commercial” which is headed by an ACTING
Director called Shane Nolan. Acting for 12 weeks only, until 30 April 2012.
Who is this Shane Nolan? Google link shows he is the commercial advisor to PlaneConsult. Now, who is PlaneConsult or rather who is in PlaneConsult? None other than Conor McCarthy, co-founder of AA and currently director in AA!!who is also the MD of PlaneConsult!! Does not take a genius to figure this one out.
Back to Kutty again. In the scope of work for PlaneConsult, it is stated that
“a number of individuals have already been identified and recommended as suitable to assume permanent roles within a re-structured MAS. PlaneConsult
would help facilitate the absorption of these personnel into MAS…”
Therefore, all the key positions today are not sourced by AJ or HR. PlaneConsult just tells MAS, this is the person, just hire him. Since PlaneConsult is also AA consultant and its MD co-founder of AA, my simple conclusion is that this is not a collaboration but a collusion of the highest order to canni..lise and dest..y MAS.
Back to the many consultants in MAS, it is also very clear that they are in MAS to do the thinking and execution of all the plans BEHIND the official version of the Business Plan. So, PM Najib and Khazanah, does that not make AJ and Danny Rashdan redundant?
Everybody, if you are sickened by all this, sign the petition now. Get all your family, friends, acquantances to do so as well. There is no time to lose.
