DAP will oppose any action by the BN Federal Government to restrict usage of the internet (en/cn)

Posted: 27 Jul 2013 09:55 PM PDT

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 28.7.2013

DAP will oppose any action by the BN Federal Government to restrict usage of the internet because this is a selfish attempt against knowledge and to undermine freedom of information so as to perpetuate BN's continued hold on power. Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said internet misuse due to the liberty given in Malaysia has reached a critical level and his ministry would not hesitate to revise internet facilities and access.

This desperate attempt to maintain the status quo will not succeed because the people has spoken in the 13th General Elections by giving PR a popular mandate of 51% of the votes, causing BN to lose the popular vote for the first time in history since 1957. Further, this violates BN's own Bill of Guarantees to Multimedia Supercorridor of no internet censorship.

Is this another failure of BN policy following the abandonment of national reconciliation and 1Malaysia? The double-standards and selective prosecution of punishing only those who attacked Muslim sensitivities but not when non-Muslims are attacked is now followed by attacking internet usage.

Such language against internet and social media by BN is no different from autocratic dictators desperately trying to cling on to power. How can internet bans help to prevent confusion that may arise as a result of internet defamation as mentioned by Ahmad, especially when there are double-standards again in punishing only opponents of BN but not when PR leaders are clearly defamed.

Clearly BN does not understand the yearnings of the people for truth and freedom and quest for knowledge unfiltered by propaganda, racism and extremist ideologies. BN sees internet as a threat because the freedom and truth in internet allows lies, hate and fear to be quickly exposed. For example, BN's lies that my underaged son had sexually molested his female classmate was quickly exposed as malicious lie when the internet identified the alleged victim's photo as a Hong Kong chess grandmaster who had never been to Penang and never met me or my son.

Is this what BN is fearful of that their lies, hatred and corruption will be exposed with internet freedom?

Comment on Maybank Investment pumped in another RM6.8 million to stabilize share price of AirAsia X by Storm

And for a few more laughs, here is what the Japanese think of AA:

"AirAsia may be almighty in Southeast Asia, but it wasn't fit to provide the meticulous service called for in Japan," Mr. Shimizu said. "Even a low-cost carrier requires attentive service, and the airline was not up to task."

Speaking privately, an All Nippon official pointed to numerous shortfalls in the level of service AirAsia brought to Japan.

1. AirAsia Japan has said the budget carrier will cancel hundreds of flights over two months before it ceases operations under the current brand at the end of October.

AirAsia Japan, operated jointly by Malaysia-based AirAsia and major Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA), will suspend 14 daily flights from September 1 to October 26, according to a company statement.
The carrier said the cancellations, which will reportedly affect 14,000 passengers, was because of a lack of planes to service all its routes.

The affected routes include flights linking Seoul to the central Japanese city of Nagoya and Tokyo to the northern city of Sapporo. The carrier will cease operations by the end of October, just over a year after it started flying out of Tokyo's Narita airport in August.

Announcing the dissolution of AirAsia Japan in June, the Malaysian carrier cited a "fundamental difference of opinion between its shareholders on how the business should be managed, from cost management to where the domestic business operations should be based".

ANA however said the venture dissolved because it was not well known in Japan and could not register profits. The Japanese carrier plans to launch a new budget brand in November.

2. An assessment of the failures of Tony Fernandes the sports entrepreneur is important because they might have a bearing on his airline business in India. Even for an industry that resembles a disaster area as a whole, Indian aviation stands out because of the high costs and rigmarole of rules. AirAsia has already faced disappointments in India. It has struggled on overseas routes from India.

The airline faces a potentially challenging 2013 as it accelerates expansion in core markets, according to aviation consultancy Capa. AirAsia will continue to incur losses at its recently launched Philippines affiliate, Capa said in a recent report.

Capa said AirAsia clearly has the cash to withstand the storm of challenges that 2013 brings. But all that can change because Fernandes also has his financial antenna tuned to his sports businesses, particularly his football team. To date, he has sunk £50 million QPR â€" to no effect. Current manager Harry Redknapp the third appointment since the acquisition. By Fernandes’ own admission, QPR will not return to the Premier League anytime soon.

3. Subramanian Swamy has raised questions of corruption involved in the deal.

“It is the duty of the Opposition to bring the corruption to public records. The Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) would have cleared the project, had I not written that letter,” said Swamy to CNN-IBN.

Swamy said that AirAsia deal needs to be re-examined. It is a fraudulent deal. Subramanian Swamy, who seems to have developed an interest in aviation following his continuous criticism of several other aviation deals, said that he has written the letter to the Prime Minister pointing out an intelligence report on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) impact on National security.

Can’t refute facts, izzit?

Well, well…..no surprises there.

Now let’s hear your explanation how Garuda (#8) overtook MAS (#14) in the latest Skytrax rankings? Are we in some alternate universe where the Indonesians can run an airline better than the Malaysians?

Oh, yes – Skilgannon 1066. That’s a dude (or is it a dudette) that we haven’t heard from in a while.

Back to refuting facts. How about it, eh?

Really?

“Without Maybank the price would have collapsed”. Wow, are you prescient, omniscient or what, that you can predict whether share prices will rise or fall?

Well, how about directing your prescience to explain how and why the MAS share price has “collapsed”? Let’s see – at it’s peak MAS share price was what, exactly? And what is it now? What was the resulting loss in market cap? What about the long-suffering minority shareholders of MAS?

The issue here is whether Maybank IB was in breach of any law or regulation in acting as a “price stabiliser”. That’s an issue for the Securities Commission, Bursa Malaysia and the capital markets regulators to decide. Legal opinions must be sought. Not “seat of the pants” judgement calls.

If you want to write about “shoring up prices”, do you think that the government was justified in “bailing out” MAS, using public funds? And how many times did these bailouts take place? Without the bail outs, MAS would just have been another airline that went bust.

And what’s with targeting Ms Sidhu? Financial journalists, like analysts and economists, write reports and do analyses based on available information. Sometimes they get it right. Sometimes they get it wrong. So, what? It’s a free press and, as far as stock market investors are concerned, it’s caveat emptor.

Oh, btw, has anyone asked Maybank’s Board of Directors if they support what Maybank IB is doing in this case of “price stabilisation”?

Video Sesi Soal Jawab Wacana KYT @ Melaka dan Isu Fitnah

Posted: 27 Jul 2013 07:53 PM PDT

Posted: 28 Jul 2013 05:34 AM PDT

Sinar Harian

Anwar Ibrahim

Civilizational Studies Crucial To Promote Communal Understanding

Posted: 28 Jul 2013 05:32 AM PDT

Globally, civilizational studies are important to promote civilizational dialogue generally between the East and the West and particularly between Islam and the West. This has become crucial because of the growing gap between the two where the lack of understanding of Islam, together with other causes, has fuelled the rise and spread of Islamophobia.
While Chinese civilization including Confucianism and Indian civilization and its related subjects are equally important there appears to be less misperception in the West. The perception of Islamic civilization, on the other hand, has been ravaged by years of orientalist studies calculated to portray it in an unfavourable light compared particularly to Christian civilization. A long history of hostility and war not the least of which sprang from the Crusades contributed to this anti-Islamic fervour. And since 9/11, the distrust and misperception in the West grew exponentially and has contributed greatly to the widening chasm between the two.

Back in 1996, I had argued in The Asian Renaissance that this divide was fed by the erroneous assumption that the various civilizations are monolithic blocs diagonally opposed to each other. I still maintain that they are not. On the contrary, there is much compatibility between Asian values and Western values even as there are differences.

In our Malaysian context, issues of misunderstanding about Islam do impact on race relations in as much as stereotyping of Chinese, Indian and other communities likewise leads to unwarranted racial slurs and racist tendencies. In this regard, there can be no overstating the importance of civilizational studies across the board for all regardless of race or religion. I am in full agreement with any proposal that such a project be undertaken by competent, committed and professional teachers who are not only steeped in the discipline but also free from bias and prejudices. This indeed could be a tall order but if the authorities are serious about instilling better understanding, then they must take into account all suggestions to make it work.

The communal issues affecting the nation may derive some positive impact from a deeper and broader understanding of the various civilizations in Asia but at the end of the day, it is a problem that cannot be addressed just in lecture halls. The discourse should be extended to the public sphere and in this regard, the Islam/Confucianism dialogues that I had initiated during my time in government were intended precisely to foster better understanding between the two civilizations. Needless to say, all these efforts will come to nothing if we continue to have a government which says one thing but does exactly the opposite when it comes to communal relations. The persistent use of the UMNO-BN controlled media to facilitate the incitement of hatred, distrust and animosity is a classic case of this double-faced policy. Similarly, the racial indoctrination of university students by the BTN shows up the hypocrisy of the government in touting its transformation programs.

Finally, to suggest that since Islam had its origin as a religion in the Middle East, its inclusion in the course on Asian civilizations needs to be justified is petty and misconceived. It should be obvious that the term 'Middle East' is not cast in stone and for all intents and purposes a manifestation of the Eurocentric view of looking at the world. Before the First World War, they called it the Near East as, say, opposed to the Far East. From the Asian perspective, we can justifiably call the region West Asia, and semantically that settles the problem. But yet it is misconceived because Islamic civilization studies cannot be confined just to its place of origin regardless whether you call it the Middle East or West Asia. Are we suggesting that the hundreds of millions of Muslims in Pakistan and India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and other parts of Southeast Asia, not to mention the millions in Central Asia and Xinjiang, are not part of the Islamic civilization?

Today's massacre of more than 100 pro-Morsi supporters and members of the Muslim Brotherhood around the Rabaa al-Adawiya mosque in Cairo marks the darkest day for Egypt since the Arab Spring.

I categorically condemn this bloodbath committed by the military and the security forces. Army chief Gen Abdel Fattah al-Sisi together with the leaders of the present illegitimate interim government of Egypt now have blood on their hands and must be held to account.

SPRM siasat satu lagi kes mirip NFC?

Posted: 28 Jul 2013 05:33 AM PDT

19 Ramadhan 1434 H. [MOD] -
Malaysiakini/-

NONEKetua Pesuruhjaya SPRM, Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed (kanan)

Terkini!!! Perdana Menteri Turki, Recep Tayyip Erdogan mengecam keras serangan polis Mesir

Mereka melarang vandalisma.

Dunia Muslim, saudara-saudara anda dibantai. Semoga Allah bersama rakyat Mesir…"

Tiada pimpinan utama PAS terlibat dengan Syiah

Posted: 28 Jul 2013 01:29 AM PDT

19 Ramadhan 1434 H. [MOD] -
Harakahdaily,28 Jul 2013

KUALA LUMPUR: Tiada pimpinan utama PAS terlibat dengan ajaran Syiah, ujar Ketua Penerangan PAS Pusat, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Kaherah: Sekurang-kurangnya 136 penyokong bekas Presiden Mohammed Morsi maut ditembak anggota keselamatan Mesir semalam, dakwa Ikhwanul Muslimin.

Lepaskan gas pemedih mata
"Peluru menghujani penunjuk perasaan.
Penunjuk perasaan bersurai
Ahli politik kanan Ikhwan, Saad el-Hosseini pula berkata anggota keselamatan mahu semua penunjuk perasaan bersurai.
"Saya cuba meminta orang muda supaya bersurai selama lima jam tetapi gagal.
"Penunjuk perasaan enggan berundur," katanya lagi.
Haddad menekankan, Ikhwanul Muslimin komited kepada usaha mencari keamanan meskipun ramai maut.
Tindakan anggota keselamatan menembak penunjuk perasaan adalah yang kedua bulan ini menyebabkan ramai maut, kali pertama 8 Julai lalu menyebabkan 53 orang terbunuh.
Pihak berkuasa belum menjelaskan mengapa keganasan terbaru meletus sejak Morsi digulingkan dan akan dikenakan tuduhan jenayah termasuk membunuh. - REUTERS

Review the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025

Posted: 27 Jul 2013 10:15 PM PDT

In Malaysia, whenever an Education Minister assumes office, he produces an education blueprint, starting with Razak Report 1956. Now, Education Minister YAB Muhyiddin presents Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025. The Prime Minister YAB Najib launched it on September 11, 2012.
Many experts including those from universities have done studies. But, they have not consulted vernacular and religious schools. YAB Muhyiddin can confirm whether they have done so.
The Blueprint wants to create universal and quality education. The aims are good, but the Blueprint creates controversy.
Lets hope that YAB Muhyiddin review the Blueprint, consistent with world education.
