Call on BN Perak Government to cancel the approval of prime lands to cronies and UMNO/BN related companies as it is still not too late in law.

Posted: 30 Dec 2012 09:46 PM PST

MEDIA STATEMENT

  1. Call on BN Perak Government to cancel the approval of prime lands to cronies and UMNO/BN related companies as it is still not too late in law.
  2. Dato' Seri Zambry Bin Abdul Kadir owes the public an explanation why these lands were approved to these companies.
  3. These lands should be awarded through open tender with strategic areas reserved for public amenities.

__________________________________________________

The pro UMNO media and UMNO leaders recently brought out the issue of my involvement in the reforestation project in Gua Musang, Kelantan to divert public attention from the land scandals that I have exposed against the BN Perak Government in the State Assembly.

Amongst the many land scandals that I have exposed are the following:-

  1. 5.0 acres of prime land in Mukim Lumut approved to Reality Axis Sdn Bhd.
  2. 32.07 acres of prime land (lot 6593) in Mukim Kamunting approved to YBU Holding Sdn Bhd.
  3. 147.84 acres of prime land in Mukim Lumut approved to be developed by Kinta Berkat Sdn Bhd.
  4.   58 acres of town land in Bandar Lumut approved  to J & S Holdings Sdn Bhd.
  5.  40 acres of prime land at Perak Tengah (Sri Iskandar) approved to Toyo Chemicals Sdn Bhd.

The people behind the abovesaid companies are UMNO/BN leaders and cronies.

I have now been given to understand that the statutory approvals (Form 5A of the National Land Code)  for the above said lands have not been issued and premiums for the above said lands have not been paid. I have  sought legal opinions and have been informed that the above said approvals can still be cancelled without any adverse consequence to the State Government.

I call on the BN to cancel the above said approvals and have them offered for development through open tender. Some areas of the said lands must be reserved for the building of public amenities which will be required in future.

Dato' Seri zambry Bin Abdul Kadir the BN Perak Menteri Besar has avoided answering me in the Perak State Assembly recent sitting with regard to the above said approvals.

BN Perak State Government owes the people an explanation why the above said lands were approved to the above said companies.

BN has scrutinized and questioned  the award of the 1.1 acres of land approved by PR Penang Government in Taman Maggis even though it being awarded through open tender. I challenge the BN leadership to support my call for the above said prime lands worth Hundreds of Millions ringgit to be re-awarded through open tender if not we know they are mere hypocrites.

Delivering Malaysia’s Promise Of Success To Those Who Are Honest, Work Hard, Invest In The Future And Follow Rules In A Malaysia That Is Clean, Green, Safe And Healthy. (en/bm/cn)

Posted: 31 Dec 2012 02:38 AM PST

DAP 2013 New Year Message By DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur on 31.12.2012

2013 promises to be momentous year whether Malaysians have to courage to change a 56 year old government that is afraid of new ideas, lost its ideals and turned its back on principles of justice, freedom, truth, democracy and integrity in governance. If Malaysia is to get back on track, both economically and political rights, 2013 should be about the people and performance not about who is more racist and extreme.

Three countries in ASEAN that have exceeded expectations serve as a reminder of the benefits of having a people-centric government that focuses on performance. Thailand has exceeded all expectations especially in tourism with the highest growth as the No. 1 tourist destination with its 2012 stockmarket as the best performer in Asia at 37% better than in 2011.

In terms of manufacturing, Phillipines is the country to watch with an economic growth rate of more than 6% and its 2012 stockmarket just behind Thailand at 33% up from 2011. Of course, Indonesia is the star performer in ASEAN, not just for its size but also for its impressive growth figures.

All 3 countries benefit from a young population that is more skilled and a government that places more importance on economics than politics, prefers performance and practical policies over racial and religious extremism as well as leaders who push for integrity and punishes corruption.

If Malaysians are to overcome those who wish to split us into racial and religious boxes, we must remind ourselves that despite our diversity and different cultural past, we are also bonded by history of Merdeka and the Federal Constitution since 1957, of shared values and millions of familiar attachments. To bridge divisions, build trust and broaden support to allow all Malaysians to connect with each other, policies must not only be legally valid but also possess moral, popular and political legitimacy.

Malaysians should take note of these 3 countries successes and ensure that bad behaviour not be rewarded but punished and reject BN with corruption in their DNA. Lies and fear tactics that change will bring about a Christian state or an Islamic state no longer work when ultimately what makes people's lives better is the KPI that counts.

The 13th general elections due in April 2013 should be about which party can deliver Malaysia's promise of success to those who are honest, work hard, invest in the future and follow rules in a Malaysia that is clean, green, safe and healthy.

Perutusan Tahun Baru 2013 DAP oleh Setiausaha Agung DAP Lim Guan Eng di Kuala Lumpur pada 31.12.2012

Menyampaikan Janji Kejayaan Kepada Mereka Yang Jujur, Berusaha Kuat, Melabur Dalam Masa Depan Dan Mematuhi Undang-Undang Dalam Malaysia Yang Lebih Bersih, Hijau, Selamat Dan Sihat.

PAS arah jentera bantu banjir

Posted: 31 Dec 2012 07:19 AM PST

Political Islam in Malaysia - at the crossroads

Posted: 30 Dec 2012 07:34 PM PST

In 2005, Michael Rubin, a resident scholar at the America Enterprise Institute wrote in ‘Bitterlemon International’ that ‘Islamists are intrinsically anti-democratic’.

He asserted that as Islamists base their legitimacy upon a higher power, they are intrinsically anti-democratic and unwilling to accept popular rebuke.

Fast forward to Bobby Ghosh who penned "Why Islamists are better Democrats" in Time magazine (5 Dec, 2011).

The writing argued for a bright future for Islamists in the emerging democracy for the newly liberated Muslim world post Arab-Spring.

He opined that Islamists are poised to do better than their liberal rivals because they were people-friendly and not corrupt.

The above contrasting scenarios of Islamists depicted by the western media in less than a decade aptly illustrate the changing perception of ‘Political Islam and Islamists’.

Lest you have been oblivious of “Political Islam and Islamists”, let me recapitulate.

A good grasp of these value-loaded ideological terminologies would facilitate understanding of one of the most misunderstood political actors in contemporary power politics.

Defining 'Islamists' Admittedly though, ‘Political Islam’ is an invention of both Orientalist thinking and Socio-Political scientists of both Western and Middle-Eastern origin.

Western discourse, defines Political Islam as ‘the contemporary movement that conceives Islam as a political ideology and describe the people who subscribe to this view as ‘Islamists’.

An Islamist, going by this definition, ranges from a “Jihadi” to “Democrat”, in an ideological milieu that is far from monolithic or homogeneous.

That said, one immediately perceives that this ‘narrow’ definition of ‘Islamic activism’ presupposes that Islam per se is ‘apolitical’ ; hence the need to affix the term ‘Political Islam’.

That premise is both misconceived and fundamentally flawed. The holistic paradigm of Islam includes its inherent and intrinsic interests in matters of ‘government and governance’, thus making it political from the very outset. The West must come to grasp with this fundamental concept.

Indeed as autocracies and despotic regimes crumble during those historical moments dubbed the Arab-Spring, vibrant Islamist political parties have emerged as winners, to evolve a new political landscape.

Interestingly, at home, Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS), represents the world phenomenon of “Political Islam”, although with its own political backdrop and historical narratives.

Nonetheless, it would be appropriately categorised as ‘Political Islam’, insofar as undertaking the “political project” of advocating Islam as seeking ‘political dominancy and relevance’ in an open electoral contestation, ever since its inception.

PAS, Islamic state and democracy Indeed, PAS was engaged in electoral contests and democratic processes earlier than its couterparts, such as the Middle-Eastern Muslim Brotherhood, Indo-Pakistan’s Jamati Islami or as well her Indonesian ‘Islamists’.

Simply put, PAS were earlier ‘Democrats’ than many of her contemporary Islamists movements around the world.

That ‘Political Islam’ is currently undergoing a critical crossroad is indeed an understatement.

The reasons are many folds and this piece attempts at exemplifying this phenomenon.

Do PAS and by extension her Islamists counterparts, truly understand the challenges?

Will they survive the political trajectory they choose to tread?Retrospectively speaking, one of the distinguishing and defining features of ‘Political Islam’ in the early twentieth century was its call for the creation of an Islamic state.

Methods and strategies of the many Islamists movements might differ with time and space, but the aim remained one and the same for all.

It was no coincidence that the late nineteenth and early twentieth century witnessed Islamists advocating the Islamic state agenda, conceptualised and premised on Islamic principles and articulated around the core concept of the Islamic Law or the Shari’ah.

But Political Islam has in the very recent times undergone a transformation of sort that immediately places them at a crossroads.

In tandem with the ‘changing approach’ or ‘a generational shift’ of her counterparts, to paraphrase Professor Tariq Ramadan, PAS has similarly registered its coming of age.

In a rare exercise of intellectual renewal or Ijtihad and Tajdid (Revivalism) the party committed to and shifted itself – prior to the 12th General Election 2008 – to a political trajectory and a manifesto of ‘Negara Berkebajikan’ (Benovelent State) from an overworked concept of the Islamic State.

While ostensibly playing down on its historical demand for the specific implementation of the ‘legal aspects’ of the Shariah (the Islamic Penal Code namely Hudud), PAS now prioritises and mainstreams a Political Islam that more importantly advocates for the cardinal Quranic message of ‘Justice’ or Al-‘Adaalah.PAS outrightly ‘de-ethnices’ and distances Islam from Malay supremacy and the racial-religious bigotry while assertively proclaiming ‘Justice for all’.

Middle ground The transformation of PAS towards the middle political ground is not without its attending consequences.

PAS’ political nemesis wasted little time in mounting a campaign accusing the Islamists party of ‘deviation’ and ‘compromises’ from its original advocacy of Islamic State.

PAS must not bow down to these intimidations.More challenging on a longer timeline is to explore and advocate a ‘Political Islam’ that goes beyond the usual ‘prohibition-oriented approach’.

For Islam to be at the centre of national cohesion and solidarity, the promotion of Islam must be inclusive, voluntary and just as to exemplify the worldview of Islam of enhancing Justice and Fairness, and of Prosperity and Sustainability of the nation at large.

More specifically is to impress the urgency to embody the Maqasid al-Shariah (true compass and purpose of the Shariah) in the critical domain of government and governance.

It must continue to mount an attack on the endemic corrupt and crony practices and gross mismanagement of the nation wealth and finances that have resulted in ‘Inequality’ and ‘Marginalisation’ of the rakyat - both a yawning income and much worse, a wealth divide.

Besides, it is of vital importance to draw the line clear for Muslims and non-Muslims, when it comes to specific prescriptions as to avoid untoward consequences.

The latest incidents on the issuing of summonses to the unisex saloons in Kota Bharu and non-Muslims apprehended for indecent behaviour have been spun viciously by the BN mainstream media.

Again this calls for an appropriate and judicious response of Islamists in balancing, oftentimes mutually exclusive demands. The raging issue over the use of 'Allah' will be another challenging case in point.

PAS’s consistency and steadfastness in upholding its conviction, policies and programmes will endear further trust and respect from the nascent support of the non-Muslims constituencies and the more discerning Malay-Muslims middle-ground citizenry.

Similarly, PAS must be cautious and tactful as not to inadvertently alienate its traditional supporters wary of PAS’ changing trends.

Does PAS have what it takes to proceed on a longer term trajectory to maintain and enhance its support-base and the acquired trust and remain a ‘centrist’ Islamists party?

This writer is of the conviction that if PAS truly understands and internalises its current strength of being capable of strategically positioning itself in the ‘middle-Malaysia’, due essentially to its embodiment of the Quranic imperatives of Wasatiyyah (Middle Nation) and Rahmatan lil-‘Alamin (A Mercy unto all Mankind), the negative perceptions will eventually give way to a more profound mutual trust and respect.

Together with its Pakatan partners, that would indeed provide for a sound and vibrant foundation for a mutually rewarding socio-politico-religious relationship of ‘A New Malaysia’... Dr. Zulkefly Ahmad.

Comment on Expedia uses AirAsia Go Holiday’s IATA Accreditation Certificate to operate as online travel agency in Malaysia? by MH400222071

What the heck is wrong with Malaysia Airlines reservation system? Being number 130 in queue and to expect a callback in 70 minutes is BEYOND EXPECTATION (pun intended) if not outright ridiculous! Best part is, the CALL BACK system says to leave a number for them to call back but suprise, suprise – there is no way to leave a number !!

Why the heck call yourself a 5 star airlines when the entire system is rotten to the core. And then I get this (M)ost (H)orrible online experience.

The golden shine that MAS once had has truly gone to the dogs if not down the drain. From self serving directors to mindless managers, complete with demoralised and disheartened frontline, cabin crew and service staff.

I even doubt if this feedback would ever get a response from MAS. Is this what happens when you leave your National Airlines reservation/booking system to be run by a third party (EXPEDIA) that is actually owned by Air Asia Go Holidays! Deliberate sabotage or coincidence???

European

Thank you so much for your kind words.

It was a joint effort of the majority of the staff in MAS, several bloggers and other Malaysians that the infamous MAS-Airasia share swap was stopped after 8 months. Of course, you are also included in this crusade against the unscrupulous lots. MAS has been quite severely damaged by the 8 months of “hell” during the said share swap but it is picking slowly but surely.

All the best to you and family for the coming 2013.

Dear Mr Steve Siow

Thank you for your comments/complaints.

I am aware of your complaints. I have taken it up with the Head Master of the school. I have been been given letters of approval from the relevant authorities together with the test reports concerning the said telco tower. As you know I am also very concerned over the safety issue here. A few years I have protested against a similar telco tower where no approval was given by the relevant authorities. I have read the reports given to me by the headmaster of the school and it would appear that the radiation generated is within the safety level. Of course, I stand to be corrected in this. Before we go further, could we meet up and I will let you have a set of the documents for our discussion. If we could get convincing evidence that this telco tower will be a health hazard to the residents of the are and the students then We will stand together to oppose it.

Could you please telephone my PA, En Yacob, so that he can pass the documents to you for study? When you are ready then we meet up to discuss the matter further. His hand phone number is 0122186929 or office 41433322.

May I take this opportunity to wish you and family all the best for the coming 2013.

With kindest regards

Terima kasih.

A very happy New Year to all readers and participants of this very positive and encouraging Blog and “Chapaeu” to Mr. YB for his engagement to get so much of this unbelievable things turned to the better for the benefit of my and many of my fellow partners good, honest and real Malaysian friends.
it was very frustrating to read about all the dirty ongoing in MAS and all the dirty games around it …. however the fight of some remaining honest “fighters” with the support of a utmost honourable MP leaves some hope for a endangered country with lack of honourable politicians.
As long as a elected representatives of the poeple like Mr. YB are around, there is more than hope for a suffering country.
all the best and Gods blessings to all the best for all of you.

I took the photo of the Twin Otter on the top of the page.

Dear Mr. Wee,

I would like bring this issue on behalf of all the residents in Taman Desa Setapak to seek for your kind help to remove the recently installed telecom tower in Sekolah Kebangsaan Desa Setapak, Wangsa Maju.

It was just assembled nearby the school entrance, in front of a lot houses in Jalan 27/27B, Taman Desa Setapak.

It have caused a lot of unrest, frustration and dissatisfaction for the residents in the area.

Thank you very much.

Regards,
Steve
