NEW ROAD TO REDUCE JAMS.

Posted: 01 Jun 2012 07:46 AM PDT

AMPANG, 1 JUNE 2012 : An overpass and two U-turns will be built to address complaints of traffic congestion and reduce the risk of  accidents for vehicles from Taman Maju Jaya and users of the Middle Ring Road  (MRR) 2.

"The illegal U-turns are causing traffic jams on the MRR2 and the drivers could also cause accidents," said Selangor executive councillor  Iskandar Abdul Samad during a site visit.

Instead of heading towards Tesco Ampang to take a U-turn, many motorists headed towards Taman Shamelin Perkasa to make an illegal U-turn at the Jalan Pandan Indah/Jalan Indah traffic lights in Taman Maju Jaya.

After the realignment of MRR2 was completed in February, many road users from the Cheras and Sungai Besi had no way to turn towards Pandan Indah.

This is because the road's design is narrow and never meant for U-turns. Drivers will have to slow to a crawl to turn and this causes traffic jams.

When the traffic lights at the junction are green on the opposite direction, drivers making the illegal U-turns are putting themselves at risk of  accidents.

In the meantime, Iskandar advised drivers to use the U-turn near Tesco Ampang in order to mitigate traffic congestion and to avoid accidents.

The new overpass will link Taman Shamelin Perkasa to Pandan Indah when completed and the two U-turns will be located at the two ends under the overpass.

He has also asked IJM Corporation Berhad (IJM), the company in charge of the project, to come up with a temporary solution.

"Drivers are doing illegal U-turns anyway, we need to consider a temporary measure," said Iskandar.

He suggested that IJM temporarily open up the divider of Jalan Pandan Indah so drivers can safely turn there.

IJM technical manager Ivan Tan said the project will be constructed by IJM's subsidiary Besraya Sdn Bhd and will take approximately one year to complete.

He said IJM will take Iskandar's suggestion into consideration but they will need to obtain approval from the Public Works Department  first.

Tan said IJM had already engaged residents over the construction of the overpass and one of the main issues raised was sound pollution.

"Cars will be moving fast and create a lot of noise, so we will construct a sound barrier on the overpass to mitigate this," said Tan.

He also said residents will be notified before construction begins so they won't be caught unaware and also open a venue for people to engage with IJM.

– mynewshub.my

UNKNOWN VOTERS REGISTERED AT KG PANDAN.

Posted: 01 Jun 2012 07:09 AM PDT

A jump over 300 voters in Kampung Pandan within four years has raised concerns over their legitimacy as several house owners claim their identities are unknown to the residents there.

State Housing, Building Management and Squatter committee chairperson Iskandar Abdul Samad said that the house owners who have resided in the area, some for more than 40 years, were not even aware of the existence of the voters.

"Some of these people inherited the property from their parents and they haven't heard of the other voters registered at the same address," he said.

Iskandar cited examples of three streets in Kampung Pandan with the highest number of "doubtful" electorates where one on Lorong Kemajuan 1 listed 21 voters in 2011, a rise of 20 since 2007.

Similarly, another house on Lorong Cantik 4 had eight registered voters in 2007 but jumped to 43 in 2011, in the master electoral list - ThinkMalaysia.com

SPIKE IN KG PANDAN DALAM VOTERS.

SHAH ALAM, 1 JUNE 2012 : An extraordinary increase in voters at Kampung Pandan Dalam since 2007 is raising concerns of possible electoral fraud.

Chempaka state lawmaker Iskandar Samad, who is alarmed by the development, said three streets in the Malay village - Lorong Kemajuan 1, Lorong Kemajuan 2 and Lorong Cantik - saw a combined increase of 335 voters within four years.

Some 28 homes which only had between one and eight registered voters in 2007 today house between 10 and 43 voters.

"The existing residents don't know who these new voters are," Iskandar said at a press statement.

The Selangor executive councillor is also concerned that the same phenomenon may be happening in other areas in his constituency.

Iskandar said the Election Commission (EC) should conduct a detailed investigation and find out the individual or party responsible for registering these "phantom voters".

Apart from Iskandar, other Pakatan Rakyat politicians like Klang member of Parliament Charles Santiago and Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh have also voiced their concerns about a spike in the number of voters in their respective constituencies since 2008.

Election watchdogs including the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) and Tindak Malaysia have repeatedly called on the EC to clean up its electoral roll before the 13th general election.

However, EC chief Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof had maintained that Malaysia has the "cleanest" electoral roll in the world. But a survey carried out by Merdeka Center just days before the Bersih 3.0 rally on April 28 found that 92 per cent of the 1,019 respondents polled want the electoral roll to be cleaned up before the election - SELANGOR TIMES.
