Dear Colleagues,

MH003/23 April 2012 – A demonstration of collective leadership, discipline, teamwork and genuine concern for our customers & our current situation

Managing a delay due to weather or technical reasons is one of the most challenging situations to be in, both for those at the front-line facing customers and the many others in support functions. In our current financial situation, any delay has a direct impact on our Group's bottom line. I am truly grateful to everyone, from ground to air, who tirelessly pulls together in the event of a delay especially a prolonged one.

With safety always the top priority, it is heart-warming to know that 20,000 men and women in Malaysia Airlines do this almost every day.

Many of you are our unsung heroes who do this as part of delivering the hallmarks of our signature Malaysia Airlines service tested during a delay. I am not able to place everyone's name. However, your efforts to execute your daily work to the very best of your ability in such trying conditions are appreciated as options are searched for solutions to minimize customer inconvenience.

To demonstrate, I am happy to share a recent situation in which our team managed a prolonged delay on MH003 on the London-Kuala Lumpur sector on 23 April 2012. I had earlier received an email from Yuzrizal Mohd Yousuf, our Area Manager based in London, commending the technical and cabin crew who agreed to operate MH003 after a prolonged delay. Originally expected to depart at 1200 hours, the flight departed much later at 1738 hours way beyond the flight crew's flight time limitation which was at 1530hours and well within the absolute limit. Given this situation of delay, the flight crew would have stepped down normally BUT this did not happen. Instead an extraordinary display of genuine concern for the Company's financial well-being was placed as a priority.

We had a passenger load of 301 customers – 3 in First Class, 31 in Business Class and 267 in Economy Class. With the delay, our team had to weigh up various considerations for immediate next actions:

1. Retiming of the flight would hit into curfew hours where flights are not allowed to land and depart after 2300 hours local time

2. An overnight's stay would impact the flight crew's mandatory rest period

3. The unavailability of stand-by crew in London would mean having to move flight crew sets earlier than expected

4. How long would it take to resolve the technical issue on aircraft in a thorough manner?

In addition, our teams had to look after 301 passengers. They had to think about:

1. Providing compulsory pay-out compensation of under EU261 per passenger (Note: EU261 denotes the EU law. This involves Denied Boarding, Compensation and passengers with reduced mobility. The amount as compensation may differ as per incident and circumstance)

2. Sourcing for hotel accommodation was a challenge – hotel rooms were limited

3. Re-connecting 167 passengers on alternative and onward flights beyond Kuala Lumpur – is a another great challenge

4. Managing tired and very upset customers as well as keeping them informed of timely updates of the situation.

As you can see, so much is involved and at stake when a flight is delayed for a prolonged time. It takes leadership, discipline, teamwork and genuine care to manage the situation. I am proud to work amongst a Malaysia Airlines team who show these fine work qualities time and time again.

In coping with the delay on MH003/London-Kuala Lumpur, I would like to recognize the following teams. If anyone is inadvertently missed out, this is not intentional. Please do have the satisfaction that your effort is acknowledged.

1. Our Operating Tech Crew: Captains Megat Abd Rahim and Eddy Azmeera Mohamed Azmi and First Officers, Lee Yeow Mein and Navaraj Singh Dhaliwal

2. Our Operating Cabin Crew: IFS Vimala Raj Sashi Kumar, Chief Steward/s Muhammad Ahmad and Michael Mangharam; Leading Steward/ess Lily Lurusamy, Teo Leh Chu & Sazman Hadi Abdul Halim; Flight Steward/esses Nurmiza Lini Abdullah, Rosnani Abd Kader, Azahari Ahmad, Ahmad Azizzuddin Azman, Faizal Abu Bakar, Nobin Chandra Metto, Jamuna Michan, Alicia Fonseka, Penny Paul Bejie, Hoh Chee Hong, Satvinder Singh and Wan Zurainie Wan Bujang

3. Our LHR Airport Team on duty: Ibrahim Isahak, Suzette Brainard, Zarqa Mahmood, Ranjit Singh Sandhu; Asmita Rahmam

4. Our Engineers at LHR who rectified the fault: Azman Kamaruddin and the team from British Airways

5. Our Reservation team at LONTO: Shamim Griffin and her team

6. Our operational teams at KUL comprising Engineering & Maintenance, the Call Centre, Operations Control Centre and many, many more.

Thanks to the swift and speedy work done by all our teams and partners, we avoided incurring a hefty cost of close to Pound Sterling180,000 up front, not forgetting other costs of effort, time and hours to rectify the change in the roster and so on.

Terima Kasih everyone. Let us continue to focus all our efforts and attention together. Delivering signature and memorable experiences such as this one demonstrates our collective resilience, teamwork and commitment to our customers. Well Done, team!

Sincerely

Ahmad Jauhari Yahya

Love mas and other readers

Thank you sdr/sdri. It is my pleasure to do what I can for our national airline/icon. Furthermore, I, as MP, must speak up to tell the Government that all is not well with the share “SUAP” and the CCF. Please don’t mention it.

Hope the Government will listen to our voices in this Blog. I believe that YAB Datuk Seri Najib has a pair listening ears.

All your voices have been heard and heard loud and clear.

Let us not allow the TRIO to intimidate us with all the dirty tactics. We would ensure that justice will prevail in the case of abused of power by Danny.

Thank you once again.

Even though the stupid TRIO tried to blocked the internet access we in MAS are still assessing the net via our own moden and other devices. The stupid TRIO are too brainless to think of such dirty tactics to inconvenience the staff. Their actions have made the staffs to fight them more.

Lets expose them until they are naked especially Dannny boy and those from AA or indirectly connected to the Pariah. Rozman Omar, Azhari Dhlan, Nor Zalida Ahamd. please do not forget about Ignatious Ong who is sucking up to the Pariah as though the pariah is his father.

Thank you YB for standing up for us. We will stand up for you too when the time comes.

Thank you YB for speaking the truth for us. Don’t forget the Nanny Danny scandals of upgrading his maid and baby to the first class cabin. This Nanny Danny must be exposed further. The Pariah and his goons will go all out to protect the Nanny the Danny because he is vital for the share SUAP.

We hardly see the TRIO moving around MAS. they must be under siege down. These shameless dogs will do anything for their master.

The “Perompak” must be sent to Sungai Buloh for a long holdiday for what they have done to MAS.

Very dissapointed.

If approval from DCA is required, then why is Azhari still there?

These kind of people will not play by the rule. They will cling on their job without shame or remorse. Practically begging for their arses to be kicked at.

Nope, they will not leave before achieving their mission to destroy the national carrier and in return enriching their masters.
