| Invitation To SUARAM Press Conference: Launching Of ‘OPS Scorpene’ Posted: 26 May 2011 05:08 AM PDT SUARAM will be holding a press conference to launch our fundraiser campaign, "Ops Scorpene". The campaign is aimed to raise funds in order to pursue the ongoing litigation stages in the French Courts with regards to the judicial investigation into the French company DCNS whom allegedly paid an amount in commissions to Perimekar, for the purchase of the Scorpene submarines. In December 2009, SUARAM linked up with leading human rights lawyers in France, to file a complaint with the French judicial system, hoping that preliminary investigation would be initiated. SUARAM has been monitoring the scandal building not just surrounding the mysterious and horrendous death of Altantuya Shariibu, but her role and involvement in the procurement of arms for the Malaysian government, leading to her gruesome murder. In April 2010, the lawyers representing SUARAM, informed us that the courts had accepted the request to investigate the claim of corruption for a payment amounting to Euro 114 million made as commissions from DCNS to Perimekar, a company formed solely for the purpose of receiving said commissions. | Posted: 25 May 2011 10:38 PM PDT Dari Malaysiakini Tarikh pilihan raya umum akan datang terus menjadi tanda tanya kebanyakan orang tetapi bagi ketua pembangkang Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, tanda-tandanya mula jelas. “Saya hampir pasti ia akan diadakan tahun ini. Awak boleh lihat keghairahan dan kegilaan oleh media yang dikuasai oleh Umno. Ia tidak sihat sepanjang sedekad lalu dan juga tidak seteruk seperti sekarang ini… yang bermaksud paling awal, pada penghujung Ogos, awal September atau Oktober," katanya. Pertarungan sebenar kata ketua umum PKR itu dalam wawancara eksklusif dengan Malaysiakini minggu lalu adalah di kerusi-kerusi yang majoriti pengundinya adalah Melayu. “Ya, itu satu cabaran dan kita mungkin masih belum melakukannya dengan mencukupi (memberi tumpuan kepada kawasan Melayu). Tetapi kami akan ke akar umbi dan Umno menyedari ini," kata Anwar. Melaka dan Johor, secara tradisionalnya dianggap kubu BN dan diperkukuhkan baru-baru ini dengan ‘mengharamkan’ ketua pembangkang itu daripada berceramah di negeri-negeri berkenaan. “Saya gagal mendapatkan satu permit (polis) pun sekarang untuk berceramah di Johor, kecuali jika ia jamuan makan dengan orang Cina – ini tidak boleh diterima. Jadi dalam kes ini, Melayu didiskriminasi tetapi Cina tidak," kata Anwar. |
