Ahmad Ton Accepts Defeat Light-heartedly

Press statement by Dr. Boo Cheng Hau, DAP Johor State Chairman and CEC Member ,on 18 December 2012, in Johor Bahru rebutting Utusan Malaysia's speculation published in its front page yesterday that Johor DAP Vice Chairman Ahmad Ton has been marginalized by the DAP since he lost in the CEC election last Saturday, 15 December

I would like to rebut Utusan Malaysia's front page speculation yesterday that DAP Johor Vice Chairman Ahmad Ton lost in the last party CEC election held on 15 December last Saturday is a sign that DAP members did not understand the concept of "Malaysian Malaysia" fully. In the same report Utusan Malaysia also maliciously misquoted Ahmad Ton to have said that he has suffered from stroke that might have made the DAP delegates reluctant to vote him.

DAP Johor would like to express our utmost respect and love for Sdr. Ahmad Ton who has served the DAP and the People diligently for the past 36 years. Ahmad Ton has always been a simple and humble man who has been contended with simple hospitality like roti kosong and teh-O for breakfast since the day I have known him.

He stood tall as a committed political leader for DAP young leaders and members to exemplify despite his humble background. It is malicious on the part of Utusan Malaysia to create unfounded ill racial hatreds towards the DAP. Utusan Malaysia shuld be ashamed of itself.

I just spoke to Sdr. Ahmad Ton last night and this morning who denied having said that the DAP delegates did not understand the concept of Malaysian Malaysia. On the contrary, Sdr. Ahmad Ton expressed his willingness to accept his defeat by comparing himself to two other renowned leaders who lost in the party election namely veteran leader Dr. Tan Seng Giaw and Penang Deputy Chief Minister Professor Ramasamy.

Sdr. Ahmad Ton told me over the phone this morning in his usual humble manner that he should humbly accept his defeat light-heartedly considering the fact that veteran leaders of high professional qualifications such as Dr. Tan Seng Giaw and Professor Ramasamy also lost in the party CEC election.

Sdr. Ahmad Ton also promised to continue help DAP and PR Johor to make more inroads in Johor as Johor DAP Vice Chairman despite his declining health due to two recent episodes of stroke. He regards his defeat in the CEC election as the DAP members' concern for his health whom are seen to want him to take a better rest.

Johor DAP takes pride in having Ahmad Ton as a committed and selfless leader. We hope he would continue to contribute to Malaysian democracy and DAP Johor as its Vice Chairman despite his declining health.
