Dr. Boo Challenges Tan Sri Muhyiddin to Debate on Indian Plights Posted: 13 Jul 2012 11:14 PM PDT Speech by Dr Boo Cheng Hau, DAP Johor State Chairman and State Opposition Leader at Ubah Night Concert, launching of DAP 13th General Elections National Theme Song "Tomorrow will be better" at Cathay 88 Restaurant, Taman Molek, Johor Bahru on 13 July 2012, to invite DPM and Former Johor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasson to debate on Johor Indian Communtiy problems to help UMNO getting rid of the Malay-only political party. I would like to laud the PKR's recent call to debate with UMNO on Indian Community's issues than MIC as it is the UMNO which was said to have created the community's deprived state of socioeconomic development. I deeply believe that there should not be any perception of "tribalism" where UMNO represents Malays, MIC Indians and MCA Chinese. If political parties are still based on racial lines, there will be no genuine national unity. In order to prove that UMNO is not a Malay-only party and able to discuss about the plights of Johor Indian community, I am willing to debate with Johor UMNO leaders about Johor Indian Community problems especially former Johor Menteri Besar tan Sri Muhyiddin.. DAP Johor has always been ready to debate about plights of any communities and ethnic groups as it aims to represent all Malaysians. The proposed debate for between Johor DAP and Johor UMNO on particularly about Johor Indian Community plights will be a good opportunity for UMNO to show that it represents not only Malays but also other ethnic communities. I would like to refute an orchestrated smear campaign against me especially as "racist" and "not helping the Indian community in Johor". In my limited capacity as Skudai State Assemblyman, I have helped Indian Malaysians to appeal for citizenship, getting welfare assistance, making my personal donations to Tamil schools and Hindu Temples within my limitations and capacity. UMNO and BN are the main cause of Indian community's deprived socio-economic state in Johor. In fact, UMNO politicians were behind the scam of converting the SJK(T) Kangkar Pulai Tamil school site to a petrol station previously. I do not ask for any gratitude from the Indian community when I carried out the duty as an state assemblyman for all fellow Johoreans and Malaysians. Indian Malaysioans' Schooling and education should not be politicised as this is their constitutional rights. Nonetheless, the fact was that I brought up the issue that SJKT Kangkar Pulai school land was secretly converted to a petrol station at Johor State Assembly before it was re-converted back for the construction of SJK(T) Kangkar Pulai which is now already in place. Therefore, I would like to propose to debate with Former Johor Menteri Besar and present Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the future of Johor Indian Community as a ethnic minority in Johor. Moverover, I would like to invite Tan Sri Muhyiddin to debate as to how some RM 600 million loan from the Federal Government could have been better spent to upgrade Johor's water supply when he was the Johor Menteri Besar until 1995. The federal loan made up almost one half of Johor State Government's RM 1.3 billion total debt as in 2010. Currently, Johor State Government was forced to sell its SAJ Holdings Berhad's assets to Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad, a GLC under the Ministry of Finance, in order to pay off its debt to the Federal Government. Therefore, Tan Sri Muhyidddin is welcome to debate with me as to whether Johor Government finances could have been better managed including Johor Corp, and the dissolved Amanah Saham Johor and Dana Johor. |
