Sodomy II verdict: Bomb blasts follow news of DSAI acquittal One injured as three explosions occur outside courthouse Monday, January 9th, 2012 13:10:00 KUALA LUMPUR: JUST minutes after news reached supporters' ears that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was acquitted of his sodomy charge, three small blast rocked the scene, dramatically cutting short the revelry. One man sustained light injuries following the three morning explosions outside the Jalan Duta court complex, all of which occurred within the spat of 20 minutes. IT WAS BELIEVED THE EXPLOSIONS WERE CAUSED BY SMOKE GRENADES placed inside three traffic cones at the traffic light before the turning into the court complex. The first explosion occurred when Anwar was addressing the crowd outside, while the second explosion went off as the de facto PKR leader was exiting the court compound and the final blast occurred a few minutes later, at 10.50am, at the nearby hawker centre. The force of the explosions blew apart the orange cones, located near a sub-power station some 50-metres away from the courthouse gates. The Malay Mail was informed by a policeman at the scene on the possibility one of the cones had two bombs inside, bringing the total number of bombs to four. However, at the time of reporting, The Malay Mail was unable to verify this information. A man in his 20's who were participating in the gathering, suffered injuries to his right arm. Witness R. Thamendra said the victim was standing close to one of the cones when the blast went off. "He just fell to the ground and was in pain. He was taken away for treatment in an ambulance." Police cordoned of the blast site with a tape following the third and final blast. Canine unit were brought in to sniff the site to determine the possible presence of more bombs.
