| Update on Teoh Beng Hock's Trust Fund Posted: 10 Oct 2011 10:25 AM PDT In the month of September 2011, Teoh Beng Hock Trust Fund received 5 donations totalling to RM13,300. As at todate, the total collection of TBH Trust Fund is RM512,425.30. At the same time, the total expenses of the trust fund is RM31,245.35 while we have also spent RM15,002.25 to purchase an education insurance plan for Er Jia. | Najib's promises ring hollow, police conduct unacceptable Posted: 10 Oct 2011 09:26 AM PDT Media Statement by Teo Nie Ching, MP for Serdang-cum-DAP Assistant National Publicity Secretary on 10 Oct 2011: In his speech on the eve of Malaysia Day, Prime Minister Najib Razak had mentioned that his administration would not hesitate to review, revise or abolish legislation which is obsolete: “The Government will act in accordance with the provision of Article 10 of the Federal Constitution, while guided by the principle that street protests are firmly rejected, shall revise the relevant provisions of Section 27 of the Police Act, 1967, to enhance the rights of the people to freedom of assembly.” However, not even 3 weeks have lapsed since the above speech, the FRU -- on the pretext of it being an illegal assembly -- intervened forcefully in the “109 Green Assembly” held in Taman Gelora, Kuantan last Sunday, causing the planned activities to end much earlier than scheduled. The move effectively debunked Najib’s rallying call for reform and exposed Najib’s "transformation" efforts as mere rhetoric and that he clearly did not mean what he said on 15 Sept. The organisers of the assembly had obtained a police permit for their function but the police withdrew the permit at the last minute, on the night before the function on the pretext that other organisations were also having activities at the same venue. Cancelling the permit in such a rushed manner renders it impossible for the organisers to notify all the participants who are converging from various locations. The police's action is grossly irresponsible and designed to cause inconvenience. After stinging criticism against the BN administration following their brutal response to Bersih's peaceful demonstration on 9 July, we would expect the police to have learnt a lesson but they still messed up horribly during the 109 Green Assembly. | Posted: 10 Oct 2011 09:17 AM PDT Article published on the Website of Chinese newspaper Chinapress.com.my 首相纳吉在马来西亚日前夕所发表的献词中表示，政府将毫不犹豫检讨修改或废除过时的法令，“政府将根据联邦宪法第10条款，在坚决反对街头示威的原则下，修改1967年警察法令第27项有关集会自由的条文，放宽集会自由。” 可是为时不到三个星期，星期天在关丹哥罗乐公园（Taman Gelora）举行的“109绿色盛会”，却被轻装镇暴队，以非法集会为由强行介入这场活动，导致活动被逼提早办小时结束，也导致纳吉改革的口号迅速破功，让人民看穿纳吉的转型根本就是玩假的。 原本已获得警察发出的机会准证的“109绿色盛会”，警方却在109前一晚以让路给其他团体举办活动为由，最后一分钟取消了他们的准证。 在如此仓促的情况下取消准证，就算主办单位有意联系通知来自各地的参与者也根本不可能。警方的做法是无理取闹的刁难。 (More......) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
