Nurul Izzah Anwar, Ahli Parlimen Lembah Pantai —————— MEDIA STATEMENT FROM PAKATAN RAKYAT REPRESENTATIVES Pakatan Rakyat wishes to congratulate Dr. Muhammad Morsi, the candidate representing the Freedom and Justice Party during Egypt's Presidential Elections by garnering more than 50 percent votes in the concluding round of an election that saw unified support both from the conservative as well as the secular groups in Egypt. The results were obtained despite the tense situation that saw the Military appointed Justice Minister declare martial law, transferring Parliament's legislative powers to the military – which effectively holds the power to enforce law and order. Such announcements by the Military are considered unnecessary intervention in assisting Egypt's successful democratic transition. As such, we hope that the results of the recently concluded Presidential election would be fully supported not only by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, but also the Malaysian government and the world community at large. Plans by the political parties to convene parliament must be supported, as do their commitment towards the creation of a civil, democratic and constitutional state.
