Penang CNY Cultural and Heritage funciton is still young for listing under National Cultural Heritage

YB Wong Hon Wai, the advisor for the Penang Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage celebration in George Town Heritage Area commented that the celebration is still young to apply for National Cultural Heritage Listing. The celebration was started in year 1994 and YB Wong Hon Wai has been appointed as advisor by the Penang State Government to oversee this celebration from 2009 to 2012. YB Wong said there are still room for improvement for this celebration although it has received overwhelming support from the general public.

檳街頭文化廟會暫不申遺

（檳城30日訊）檳城街頭文化廟會「還年輕」，暫未準備向國家文化遺產提出申請。

在馬紮根已久的檳城舞大旗鼓及新山古廟神遊活動，在上週六被宣佈列為國家文化遺產，而在檳城古蹟區越辦越成功的文化廟會也建立口碑，每年吸引數以萬計的國內外遊客到訪。

對此，檳州文化委員會主席黃漢偉今出席活動被詢及文化廟會是否也打算提出申請時說，當局暫無此打算。

2009年至今，黃漢偉也是檳城街頭文化廟會一連4屆的大會主席。

他說，廟會從1994年開始舉辦，迄今10多屆，雖然來自民間稱讚有加，並把廟會視為文化品牌，但他認為，廟會將來還有進步空間。

他說，廟會未來可塑性還很大，假以時日是有望成為文化遺產的，不過現階段還言之過早。
