| [Malaysiakini] Serdang MP: Gov't must explain surge in polls expenses Posted: 30 Mar 2011 09:29 AM PDT ~ Joseph Sipalan The Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching today questioned whether or not the Election Commission had used taxpayer's money to help BN win most of the by-elections held from 2010 onwards. Teo notes that the last by-election of 2009 - Bagan Pinang - saw the government spending RM449,485 but this figure more than doubled to RM1.2 million for the subsequent Hulu Selangor by-election in April 2010. Acknowledging that parliamentary seats like Hulu Selangor could incur higher costs for the government, she points out that pre-2010 by-election seats for other Parliament seats saw the government spending less than RM500,000 each time. These seats are Permatang Pauh (2008), Kuala Terengganu (2009) and Bukit Gantang (2009). All seats were won by the opposition. (More......) | |||||||||

| 【当今大马】质疑补选花费激增助国阵取胜 . 张念群揭纳兹里数据前后不一 Posted: 30 Mar 2011 06:03 AM PDT For blog post written in English, please click here. ~ 李伟伦 首相署部长纳兹里昨日公布过去16场补选总耗费1120万令吉，不过民主行动党沙登国会议员张念群却揭露，纳兹里昨日所提供的答案，竟与其在去年11月所提供的答案，出现巨大差距。 质疑数据出现差异 她出示一份纳兹里回答亚沙国会议员陆兆福的声明，当时纳兹里提到峇眼槟榔补选的耗费是28万4324令吉79仙。 不过，她表示，纳兹里昨日却称峇眼槟榔补选的耗费是44万9485令吉，与之前所宣布的数据，增加了16万5160令吉21仙。 张念群在国会走廊召开记者会质疑，到底哪一项数据是正确，为何在短短数月间，出现巨大的差距？ 7补选国阵胜6场

| [MalaysianDigest.com] Nie Ching: Nazri Must Explain Discrepancies in Costs of By-Elections Posted: 30 Mar 2011 05:54 AM PDT by Aidil Syukri KUALA LUMPUR, 30 MARCH, 2011: Serdang MP, Teo Nie Ching today called on Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz to explain his discrepancies in his answers during yesterday’s parliament sitting on the government spending over the course of 16 by-elections since March 2008.
“In his answer to Rasah MP, Anthony Loke on 12 November 2009, Nazri said the cost of the Bagan Pinang by-election was RM284,324.79. But yesterday, he announced that the total expenditure for Bagan Pinang was RM449,485.00. Therefore, which is the correct figure?” asked Teo. “On top of that, the Election Commission (EC) is now seeking an additional budget of RM4,636,900 from Parliament to cover the cost for four by-elections, namely Batu Sapi (RM1,397,200), Hulu Selangor (RM1,200,000), Sibu (RM1,000,000) and Galas (RM1,039,700),” Teo added. “However, the figures quoted by the EC are different to the figures disclosed by the Minister in Parliament yesterday, which were RM1, 290, 000 for Batu Sapi and RM1, 047, 000 for Galas,” she added. Teo also added that if the figures provided by Nazri are accurate, one will not fail to note that the cost of by-elections have increased tremendously since 2010. She said, the cost of the last by-election in 2009 which is in Bagan Pinang was RM449,485 while the cost of the Hulu Selangor by-election which is the first by-election in 2010 was a staggering RM1, 200, 000. “One might argue that the cost of the Hulu Selangor by-election was higher as it was a by-election for a parliamentary seat. However, when compared to the parliamentary by-elections for Permatang Pauh, Kuala Terengganu and Bukit Gantang, the cost were far less at RM409,000, RM325,416 and RM460,971 respectively,” said Teo who is also the DAP Assistant National Publicity. “Nazri need to explain the discrepancies immediately to restore the dignity of Dewan Rakyat. He must also explain to the rakyat why the costs of by-election have increased tremendously since 2010,” she added. Teo said that seeing as how BN has won six out of the seven by-elections since 2010, the people and Opposition have the right to know if the EC has abused their power and utilized taxpayers’ monies to ensure BN’s victory. 她也根据纳兹里昨日所列出的数据，质疑为何从2010年起，补选的耗费便大幅度增加，而凑巧的是，国阵在2010年与2011年的7场补选中，竟然一洗颓势胜了6场。
