State aid brings festive cheer to housewife Posted: 19 Aug 2012 09:05 AM PDT Wednesday August 15, 2012State aid brings festive cheer to housewifeHOUSEWIFE Habibah Ibrahim was thankful to receive the RM100 aid for single mothers from the Penang Government, in time to buy necessary groceries for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Habibah, 53, a mother of six, said she had not bought anything yet for the celebrations just around the corner. She was among 20 single mothers who received the aid at a 'buka puasa' event at Block B of the Kampung Melayu low-cost flats in Air Itam, Penang, on Sunday. The ceremony also saw 27 beneficiaries of the elderly who had died receiving the one- off financial aid of RM1,000 each. Among those who collected the sum was retired teacher S. Dhana Lakshimi, 86, whose younger sister passed away in April. Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai said that some 1,800 Year One, Year Four, Form One and Form Four students in the Air Itam constituency had registered for the Golden Student or Pelajar Emas programme since April. "We expect to register at least 2,000 students after registration closes on Aug 31," he said. "Parents can register their children for the programme at the Golden Student or Pelajar Emas counter at Kampung Melayu Pasar Ramadan from Monday to Friday (5pm to 6.30pm). "They can also go to my service centre in Jalan Balik Pulau, Air Itam, from Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm). "They have to bring along the identity cards of the parents and the student, and birth certificate of the student to register." |
