Posted: 23 Mar 2011 09:39 AM PDT

Serdang MP Saudari Teo Nie Ching today urges the Minister of Education Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Deputy Minister of Education Datuk Wee Ka Siong make their stance clear - whether the government agrees to build new independent Chinese secondary school in Malaysia?

Teo pointed out that the government shouldn't hesitate in giving approval to the Chinese communities' proposals for building or reviving Chinese independent Chinese secondary schools as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib has openly commended Chinese independent secondary schools are an important national asset that has given birth to unique talents during an interview with Sin Chew Daily on 14 December 2009.

In January, Ministry of Education has issued an official statement on its Website to turn down a  proposal to revive an independent Chinese high school in Kuantan, Pahang. The statement said that it was government policy not to increase the number of independent Chinese schools. However, it was reported that the ministry has removed this statement from its official Website few hours after it has been posted in order to avoid BN from losing Chinese votes in Tenang By-election.
