DAP today launched its National Fund-Raising Campaign, stepping up a gear in preparation for the coming Sarawak state election.
They also introduced their official song "Sinar Impian" which can be viewed now in Youtube. It is one of 10 songs in DAP's debut album for the campaign. The party has also planned a live concert and fund-raising dinner at Starlight Restaurant Naturalle, Petaling Jaya on April 7 with the theme, "Battle of Sarawak, Battle for Malaysia".
"The dinner will not only feature speakers such as Lim Guan Eng, Tony Pua, Hannah Yeoh and DAP's potential candidate Mordi Bimol, but also a live concert for the album launch.
"But we will release new tracks from the album on a regular basis until the concert on 7 April.
"The primary language for this dinner will be in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Halal and vegetarian food can be made available upon request," Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen told a press conference at the DAP headquarters.
For the dinner, it will cost RM80 per person or RM800 per silver table, while gold and platinum tables are fixed at RM2,000 and RM5,000 respectively.
"For reservations, can email or call 016-8782472. "Donations can also banked into 'DAP Malaysia' account number 3063828309 (Public Bank), via Internet Banking or cash deposit," said Chong.
He stressed that the next Sarawak election will be the biggest and the sternest test to date for DAP and Pakatan Harapan against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak-led BN administration.
Adenan's true colour
Asked to comment on opposition leaders being barred from entering the state, Chong said this is Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem's true colour, despite of him making populist statements and promises.
"Banning MPs from entering Sarawak to campaign reveals that he is a person who would do anything, would go to any extent, by hook or by crook, to win the election for BN.
"This is a very dangerous trick. If you can go to that extent to give yourself an advantage or to increase the chances of winning... there is no need to speak about money politics or suppression of the opposition," slammed Chong (photo).
However, he said the DAP can't really challenge the entry ban because it is the state government's prerogative.
"We don't have any intention of challenging it," Chong added.
Asked what would be their solution, he said the party will come up with their own way to campaign for the polls.
"We have our local leaders. The banned leaders can contribute in many other ways," said Chong.
On the revocation of Baram Dam gazette, Chong said it will not have much effect on the opposition. He said it showed that when the state government comes under pressure, people's wishes will be respected by the authority.
"The authority can revoke the dam project today, but the authority of the future can reinstate the project.
"So the important thing for Sarawakians is to have a strong check-and-balance, so that the authority or the government will be more responsible," said Chong.
