Najib's "Impulsive" Administration Makes A Perfect Flip-Flop Government

Posted: 18 Mar 2012 06:52 PM PDT

Eight months ago, the Najib administration sanctioned and defended the MAS-AirAsia share swap exercise which saw AirAsia owners take a 20% stake in MAS, while Khazanah Nasional took a 10% stake in AirAsia.  The deal was presented as the only means to rescue MAS which was not only bleeding heavily but was seeing absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel.

Their defense of the share swap exercise was in spite of the obvious anti-competitive elements contained and arising from the "Comprehensive Collaboration Framework" which will reduce flights and increase the price of air tickets.

However, the financial results of MAS for December 2011, just 4 months into the swap exercise showing a RM1.28 billion loss for the final quarter of the year, and a RM2.52 billion loss for the full financial year shocked the Administration and had many leaders in Barisan Nasional (BN) baying for blood.

The staggering losses according to the BN critics proved the failure of the restructuring and rescue exercise and the pressure was applied on the Prime Minister to unwind the swap deal.  It is now widely reported that Datuk Seri Najib Razak is seriously contemplating rolling back the August 2011 agreements.

According to The Malaysian Insider, "Putrajaya is considering a special entity to take loss-making Malaysia Airlines (MAS) off its main shareholders, Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Tune Air Sdn Bhd, if the Najib administration caves in to demands from the flag carrier's worker unions to unravel an unpopular eight-month-old share swap."

The ease and absolutely lack of proper evaluation in the way the Najib administration makes decision is even more shocking than the losses incurred by MAS.

Was Najib seriously expecting the new management team brought in and started serious work perhaps only in September 2011 to work miracles and create surprisingly profitable results within 3 months?

In reality, out of the RM1.28 billion of losses incurred for the 4th quarter of 2011, RM1.09 billion were financial provisions made for items such as stock obsolescence and impairment of freighters.  These provisions were the "legacy" left behind by the previous management which should be best dealt with at the earliest possible instance.  There can be no "new start" for MAS if the rotten could not be rid of from its books.

Najib's contemplation of changing course less than 8 months into the deal is akin to doe-eyed Premier League football club owners who hire and fire managers at will following a string of bad runs, as if the new managers will always be able to perform miracles with the same set of players and set up.

The fact is that MAS has been in a state of malaise which it has never reversed ever since Mahathir decided to privatise the airline to Tan Sri Tajuddin Ramli.  If Najib was seriously expecting the turnaround flight to be any less turbulent, then he must seriously take a peek out of his first-class cabin.

The sudden decision to execute the share swap in August 2011 and now the serious contemplation to unwind the exercise before the management is even able to impose its will and direction epitomises Najib's impulse-driven decision-making.  Such hare-brained impulsiveness has characterised Najib's administration with multiple U-turns in his policies, including but not limited to the much-hyped eradication of racial quotas in the "New Economic Model", the reversal of the "Malaysian First" definition and the promise of "open tenders".

As a result, many local and foreign investors have lost faith in his ability to make substantive reforms and effect changes in our political and economic system.  They now perceives Najib as probably the most fickle-minded Prime Minister in Malaysia's history.

Nong Chik Says Low-Cost Home Dwellers Can Afford 6.5% Interest

Pakatan asks if RM1.5b EPF loan is to unlock DBKL assets
By Shazwan Mustafa Kamal Mar 17, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 — Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lawmakers are questioning the rationale behind using RM1.5 billion from Malaysia's largest pension fund to finance Kuala Lumpur City Hall's (DBKL) low-cost housing schemes, and whether it is to liquidate the capital city's assets.

Noting that Putrajaya has yet to clarify the matter, they also flayed Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Raja Datuk Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin for saying that prospective buyers who did not qualify for bank loans would have no problems repaying loans from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) at a 6.5 per cent interest rate.

"My fear is that EPF is being used as a last resort, as the government's personal piggy bank.  There is concern ... that the EPF funds are being used as a source to finance new projects and this scheme will be used to unlock illiquid assets," PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar told The Malaysian Insider.

[...]

DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua stressed that the responsibility of building low-cost houses should fall under the purview of the federal government using federal funds instead of EPF money.

"Why must the taxpayers' retirement funds be tapped? What has happened to the taxes we have paid to the government? Is the federal government so bankrupt now that they can't afford to build low-cost homes without tapping into our retirement savings?' he asked The Malaysian Insider.

The EPF is providing the first tranche of RM300 million to a special purpose vehicle (SPV) undertaking the financing for those buying some 24,000 low-cost flats in the capital city.

Raja Nong Chik  said on Thursday DBKL "did not ask [for] money from the government" as it wanted to "avoid politics" in the scheme described as a "liquidation exercise."  The minister had told reporters that DBKL had decided against making direct loans to up to 35,000 city dwellers who are still renting and unable to borrow from banks as it needs funds for "future projects."

Raja Nong Chik had earlier told Parliament that under the current rate of 6.5 per cent, a loan of RM36,100 over 25 years would incur a monthly repayment of RM243, or 50 per cent more than would be applicable with a 2.5 per cent interest rate.

"If we reduce it to 2.5 per cent, it will be RM161. It is only RM82 difference. This is just political posturing by the opposition," the senator had said, and that the RM36,100 figure was for the newest and most expensive low-cost homes; the rest would be sold for less.

This did not sit well with PR MPs, who accused the Umno minister of being "insensitive" to rising costs of living among the poor in the city.

"RM82 is a large amount for the majority of the people, it is slightly more than 10 per cent of a standard household disposable income. This shows the minister does not understand the realities of urban living costs which are increasing due to government policies.

"There should not be any discrimination towards low-income earners seeing as independent power producers (IPPs) and the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) received lower soft loan interest rates," Nurul Izzah said.

[...]

"Raja Nong Chik is unfit to be the minister of urban well-being when he completely failed to understand and empathise with the poor man on the street.  He has the cheek to dismiss a RM82 instalment difference as a 'small amount' when these low-cost housing dwellers earn less than RM1,000 per month," DAP's Pua said.

Pua said the responsibility of building low-cost houses should fall under the purview of the federal government using federal funds instead of EPF money.

DAP 46th Anniversary Message (en/bm/cn)

Posted: 17 Mar 2012 09:27 PM PDT

DAP 46th Anniversary Message By DAP Secretary-General and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 18.3.2012.

DAP's Very Political Survival At Stake In The Next General Elections If Our Members And Supporters Do Not Successfully Repulse BN's Shameless Tactics of 4M of Money, Media, Machinery of Government, Menacing PR Leaders and 4R of Race, Religion, Royalty & Rigging The Election Commission.

On the occasion of DAP's 46th anniversary since it was first registered on 18 March 1966, DAP urges all leaders and members to redouble efforts to ensure that PR wins the next general elections so that DAP can remain a party in power in state governments and hopefully in the Federal government too. The danger signals are evident that the 13th General Elections will be the dirtiest in Malaysian history.

BN leaders' nation-wide road show to drum up electoral support, is a classic replay of its past tactics of using money politics to buy votes, control of the mass media to demonise the opposition and glorify the BN as well as misuse of government machinery for BN's electoral purposes. However the intensity of such tactics has not only reached unprecedented heights, for the first time in history BN and their supporters are openly and publicly menacing PR leaders.

PR leaders from Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PAS Deputy President Mat Sabu and myself have not been spared threats of personal harm and violence when we attend public events. Even PKR Vice-President Nurul Izzah Anwar was threatened harm by a BN man in Pahang. It is not Malay culture but also not Malaysian culture for a man to threaten a woman with physical bodily harm.

Worse is such menacing tactics are even expanded to defamatory lies against young school-going children. My 15 year old son was accused with lies that he sexually molested his female classmate and I had paid RM200,000 to cover up the act. Even though the so-called lady victim had publicly stated that this is false as she had never met my son or me, no action has been taken by the police against UMNO Online and UMNO bloggers who publicized these lies.

DAP's very political survival at stake in the next general elections if our members and supporters do not successfully repulse BN's shameless tactics of 4M of Money, Media, Machinery of Government, Menacing PR leaders and 4R of Race, Religion, Royalty & Rigging The Election Commission.

Even though PR, PAS, PKR and DAP has repeatedly stressed our full support for the Federal Constitution, BN has continued its shameless tactics of using race, religion and royalty to draw back lost support from the Malays. Worse is what PR sees as the blatant attempt by BN to rig the elections not just with phantom voters, registering of foreigners as voters by giving them ICs, refusal to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry into illegal immigrants in Sabah and lately the clandestine shifting of voters to another voting district without their knowledge that happened even to Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

For this reason DAP leaders and members must remain vigilant against such BN's shameless 4M and 4R tactics in order to project DAP's multi-racial approach of uniting and prospering all Malaysians based on core principles of justice, freedom, truth, democracy and integrity.

Perutusan Ulangtahun DAP ke-46 oleh Setiausaha Agung DAP dan Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Lim Guan Eng di Kuala Lumpur pada 18.3.2012

Kewujudan Politik DAP Dalam Bahaya Jika Ahli-Ahli Dan Penyokong Tidak Berjaya Menangkis Taktik BN Yang Tidak Tahu Malu Iaitu Duit, Media, Jentera Kerajaan, Mengancam Pemimpin-Pemimpin PR (4M: Money, Media, Machinery of Government, Menacing PR Leaders) Dan Juga Kaum, Agama, Raja Dan Memanipulasi Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (4R: Race, Religion, Royalty, Rigging The Election Commission) Dalam Pilihan Raya Umum Yang Akan Datang

Ustaz Tuan Ibrahim membimbing Sdr. Yong melafazkan kalimah syahadah.

Menadah tangan berdoa tanda bersyukur.
Sdr. Yong menerima ucapan tahniah ...

Selepas solat Isya', Dato' Tuan Ibrahim telah diberi penghormatan mengislamkan seorang saudara baru berbangsa Cina. Dato' Tuan Ibrahim telah mengajar Sdr. Yong Yuk Thien, 26, berasal dari Sabah melafazkan kalimah syahadah. Kini Sdr.

Comment on The police report against MAS top management by Atticus

Old Man

The truth is number 1 – there is currently NO bilaterlal/mutual agreement between MAS and AA on the transfer fares. After YB’s blog exposed the ‘no fare’ tickets, an emergency meeting was called by AJ on Friday at 2.30pm. Many senior managers were summoned, presumably to do ‘damage control’.
Apparently they wanted to ‘finalise’ an agreement, and backdate it.
Sources say that , after a lot of blogs mentioned the 30,000 pax and the alertness of one senior manager regarding the policy applicable, this issue was presented to the Board for a decision. We are told that the ‘agreed’ fare would be 35% less than the ‘lowest average fare’ on MAS on that date.
That decision is also not reflected in any agreement to date.

"MASEU leaders have signed a Collective Agreement on behalf of its members where MAS staff retirement age has been extended by two years and there will be a salary increment of 5%."

The facts:

1. The secretly signed CA just in time to extend the service in MAS for MASEU leader himself. Success to con-sultant of MASEU (union pun ada secret agreement and a con-sultant!).

2. FIVE percent of RM1000, SEVEN percent of RM5000 and TEN percent of RM10000. Lowest rank gets less percentage and higher pay gets higher percentage. Sounds similar to the defunct government pay scheme?

3. Without anything in exchange? Say, cut annual leave again…….

Real syabas to CUEPACS!

What have been stated by the Italians were about the incompetency of the three stooges in MAS namely Tan Sri Md Nor, Rashdan and AJ. It was all due to idea hatched by the former BinaFikir boys Tan Sri Azman and Rahsdan. They have done once to MAS and now they did it again this name with Tan Sri Azman in Khazanah and Rashdan seconded to MAS. This will be another WAU to asset stripped MAS. Watch out MAS staff. MAS staff must be in full alert to watch out what the three stooges are doing in MAS and exposed each and every time so that they have no where to hide. Sabotage their hidden agenda so that MAS will be save.

This Tan Sri Md Nor has done so much damage to MAS under WAU and yet he was trying to defend Rashdan and AJ. When they had to rely on PlaneConsult to chart their course what hope has MAS go under them. PlaneConsult MD is Conor McCarthy and he is also the co-founder of AirAsia and a director of AirAsia. Need I tell you more? MAS will be cannibalized until nothing in a few months time if not weeks.

This daylight robbery. Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, why are keeping quiet when your crony has been messing around in MASand spoiling whatever reputation that you left. Not much though after the share suap and CCF. Now the picture is very clear that who is your winner after all. Your good friend TF is the winner of course.

We also know your the other in MAS and AirAsia is doing hell of a good job too. He is of course none other than another crony, Azman Yahya. He sits on board boards AA and MAS. What the f..k is he in MAS? What does he know about MAS beside waving his degree around like your crony Rashdan.

If you are not going to stop them then you will definitely be dragged down into the shit hole joining Rashdan and MD nor who appointed BinaFikir and WAU was hatched. I hope you have not forgotten about that. .

Comment on Aj & Rashdan: “WHAT COST CUTTING?” & Zero Fare for uplifting 30,000 passengers of AirAsia X – Part 3 by MAS - Musuh Atas Selimut

Posted: 18 Mar 2012 09:56 AM PDT

These are the facts.

1. MAS is member of IATA. AAX is not. Even though it’s under mutual agreement, the fact is, MAS is still allocating 30,000 seats AAX pax instead of selling them and generating for full revenue for flights which, under normal circumstances are always full load. Why?!?!
2. MAS pays out 18 million pounds to finance QPR (oh big surprise!… NOT!) when they’re trying to “cut cost”.
3. MAS cuts down high profitable routes from KKIA to Orient routes (high profit) and from KLIA to high profit routes like Surabaya, Japan, etc. while AAX takes over the routes.
4. The appointment of Nor Zalida Ahmad, who is the niece of Datuk kamarudin Meranun of AirAsia and sister to En Zaman Ahmad, who is the Head of Customer Experience and Technology of AirAsia, as Head of strategic communication, En Azhari Dhalan as Head of MAS Engineering Division and En Rozman Omar as the CFO of MAS.
5. AAX now getting their planes serviced under MAS engineering under NO cost as well???
6. Paying PlaneConsult thanks to BinaFikir Sdn. Bhd., the RM1 company.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Do you see any of this in the media? I for sure as hell haven’t.

For those so ignorant in their bliss and don’t want to believe what’s happening, then that’s just sad. Open your eyes and take your head out from the place where the sun doesn’t shine. MAS staff is behind you, YB. You’ve got their support. The Union can’t do anything for them right now.

All these MAS robbers are not even musuh dalam selimut. They are atas selimut where everyone can see but no one is doing anything about it. Except you, YB. For that, we thank you.

I think those who have an interest in Air Asia thinks it was a setup when the Malaysian government purportedly changed. Or this is a conspiracy to derail the popularity of the ruling government. This is a dangerous action. Fix it before it all too late.

Good for you Italians. Please exposed the incompetence of the cronies in MAS. They are a bunch of idiots running amok in MAS. Relying on Mat Salleh, PlaneConsullt who knows next nothing about premier airlines. Of course, PlaneConsult is extremely capable to the cronies because it is also the AIrAsia and AirAsia X consultant. Oconor McCarthy is the owner of PlaneConsult and he is also the co-founder and director of AirAsia. So glaring isn’t it?Conflict of interests all over the place. Only the idiots like MD Nor (the WAU expert for asset stripping), Rashdan (another WAU expert), Aj (the Mr Blur), Rozman and Azhari (both are the Pariah’s cronies) coudln’t see it.

At least the Itlay have spoken about the incompetent of the MAS management under Rasdan the crony of Ak and AJ. Please resign because you all have been exposed enough.

Comment on YB Senator Datuk Idris Jala: Is this AirAsia/MAS share swap an indirect bailout? by kapakhalus

With all the above comments and postings, are every Malaysian and politician aware TF and his goons loyalty?

MAS is the national carrier and is here to stay to service and continue to provide social responsibilities to link various Malaysia points. MAS plays pivotal role as a business entity and at the same time is tasked to undertake social responsibility in Malaysia and for the larger Malaysians populations. MUST Malaysians then continuously blamed MAS and its workforce when the company has been making insignificant profits or substantial loss in order to execute its roles? The company must absorb all the huge expenses like fuel hikes and flying to unprofitable routes as MAS plays its part as the tool and catalyst for the Malaysia economic and Malaysians business growth.

It is though not a permanent excuse for MAS and its management not to be able to turnaround and established MAS as a profitable airline through continuous costs containment and reduction and improve revenue generation especially from the passengers. Some of the costs were caused by unnecessary projects implementation to fulfill some top management like Moz-man who wanted to show off and the head of the company was unable to contain. The revenue management has been a screw up as the department and routes heads failed to look beyond their own regions and work together.

TF and his goons are purely on and for business interests and profits. They investments and interests are not firmly rooted in Malaysia unlike MAS. AA survivals, however, are not dependent on air traffic growth but heavily dependent on the political links which they formed their AA presence in these ASEAN countries. They broke many promises with ease and no regret to provide more services and to be the business catalyst in a number of Malaysian cities as reported in mass media – not a secret to the public. AA has bought more than 200 aircraft which are divided among their AA groups of airlines and up for heavy maintenance and would certainly “brake” their banks; the funds which partly funded from unpaid or not yet paid airport taxes or refunded to canceled passengers.

TF and goons resurrected a number of the once TR initiatives by splitting MAS ancillary businesses and MAS core expenditures like insurance expenses through various JV companies which they have significant stakes and not MAS. TF and his cronies do not “feel” for MAS and the country except for milking the monies out of MAS into their pockets through the JV. AA has already been BAILED OUT by having Khazanah Nasional to pump the Rakyat monies through the share swap. NOT a single cent was injected into MAS by this share swap deal.

The Government of Malaysia under the leadership of Najib must awake and make the right moves.
