Tunku Aziz Should Stay

Posted: 17 May 2012 05:51 AM PDT

Speech by Dr Boo Cheng Hau, DAP Johor Chairman at Bersih 3.0 Sharing Session organised by DAPSY Johor at Cathay 88 Restaurant, Taman Molek, Johor Bahru on 16 May 2012.
Unlike its opponent BN leaders who used to call for "zero opposition"in Johor, as a mature political entity, PR Johor would not want a "zero opposition" if it ever comes into forming  government in Johor.

In any normal democracy, we need a sustainable opposition to check and balance Government of the day to avoid abuses of power.

Bersih 3.0 is not only a mass social movement to urge the government of the day Barisan Nasional to respect people's right for peaceful assembly and fair elections, but aslo to remind PR that PR would respect human rights and implement a fair election process when we come to power.

It is a dream shared by Malaysians of all walks of life across racial and partisan divides. Notably Malaccan MCA Wanita Chief was threatened with sacking after having participated in Bersih 3.0. Therefore, Bersih inspires all Malaysians.

Even though I disagree with Tunku Aziz Tunku Ibrahim"s view on Bersih 3.0 for causing violence and being illegal, Tunku Aziz is a soft spoken gentleman who always holds honestly to what he believes in.

Rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of speech and freedom of movement should NOT be defined totally by the Government of the day only as provided by our present Federal Constitution.

Our present Federal Constitution gives Government too much power to define what freedom of peaceful assembly and other human rights mean. We need a new constitutional reform to protect human rights regardless of whichever political parties are in power.

The Barisan Nasional, which has been in power since the Independence, should be whole responsbile for all the corruption and abuses caused so far.

Tunku Aziz should have stayed on in the DAP and PR to ensure that PR would uphold the spirit of Bersih to protect human rights and implement good governance when PR comes to power.

With my brief interaction with Tunku Aziz as the DAP's Central Executive Committee members, we always have fond discussions and debates on various matters. His well articulated views are always appreciated.

I wish he would have stayed on in the DAP and Pakatan to give his views on various matters. He is also a man who respects others' opinion and is also humble enough to rectify his views if proven wrong.

I am actually sad to see his departure from the fold of the DAP but still wish to discuss and debate with him on various matters if opportunities arise.

We differed on the view of Bersih 3.0  as peaceful civil disobedience beyond legality defined by powers-that-be. Usage of tear gas and chemical laced water canons showed that the Barisan Nasional has no will to change following abolishing the notorious Internal Security Act.

I personally did not  see any violence instigated by the Bersih participants but there was a carnival like mood where participants expressed their views in the form of creative songs, musics and slogans.  The police should have rallied together with the crowds and ensure uninterrupted peaceful assembly than the other way around.

I agree that Tunku Aziz is a man of principle and integrity. His departure and criticism should also make Pakatan Rakyat look more  seriously into our weaknesses. PR  also needs checks and balances within ourselves in regards to our leaders and members integrity. We cannot have double standards as far as integrity and transparency  is concerned.

I was surprised when DAP Johor was attacked to have ill intent to "embarrass top leadership" when its State Convention passed a resolution to require all future candidates to declare their assets. Our members and leaders must live up to the expectation of the public to realize a good and transparent governance. And good and transparent governance must begin from individual leaders' integrity first.

The main purpose of DAP Johor to observe the resolution that future candidates and elected members should declare their assets from time to time is to  deter ourselves from corruption and walk the talk of being transparent in managing our  finances. I hope our collective decision will be respected by everyone who strives for a future good governance.

Posted: 17 May 2012 07:54 PM PDT

Posted: 17 May 2012 07:30 PM PDT

After getting rid of AJ, Nanny Danny, Rozman, Azhari and Azman Yahya then we must get rid of the Panamera Deadwood like Hayati and the Takbrani too.

Let focus on the AJ, Nanny and gang first. Lets campaign against them until they go. MAS staffs must remember not to take verbal instructions from anyone of them in order to protect yourself otherwise the blame will be on us. They want to avoid the paper trail but we must insist on all instructions in writing so that they cannot say that they did not instruct.

Lets work to rule with them and there is nothing they can do to us. Don’t worry. If they insist on verbal instructions then we must confirm in an e-mail to them the telephone instructions. We must be as smart of the cronies too. Don’t be fool by them.

I think your comments smack of envy. In all categories of staff, whether they are captains, engineers, cabin crew etc, there are good ones and not-so-good ones. In my 30 years of working as a ground staff, I find 90percent of our Captains very polite, professional, highly intelligent and generally very pleasant. Of course there are some as you describe. So it is not fair to tar all of them with the same brush. However, if you want to find the single largest concentration of Napoleons, look no further than our HC, and the bodoh sombong is not confined to those with high positions only in HC, it cuts across their whole culture! As for saying they are “overpaid” have you done your homework? If YOU happen to be in an aeroplane, what is YOUR life worth? I will not begrudge the Captain who ensures I, and hundreds of others,
arrive at our destinations safely. MAS’s Captains have a world reputation
for this.
One more thing, be careful, by saying they get Datukships for nothing is actually insulting the very Sultans who accorded them.

Atticus, I am not an employee of Firefly or MAS but merely asking why there appears to be so much consternation from MAS Unions and certain quarters within MAS management, after all, everyone belongs to the same company do they not? I guess the “us and them” mentality reigns supreme in MAS and little Napoleons will do whatever they can to keep it that way. By the way, do you know exactly how many people received an 8 month bonus? Or how about a 4 month bonus? How about the number of those that received jackshit? Its a myth that everyone in Firefly received a 4 or 8 months bonus.
With regards to a secret agenda, I don’t know…lah, I’m just like you and everyone else, fed bullshit and kept in the dark!

Many of us appreciate the efforts of the unions and associations, except MASEU of course. We know the deferment of the migration to KLIA is one of the results of their efforts. What I cannot understand is, how come, Maseu’s thousands of members continue to allow themselves to be “lembu dicucuk hidong” by Alias and Malek for 15 years? If I recall correctly, wasn’t it these two who took RM1mill of Union funds WITHOUT Exco endorsement to invest in some failed scheme ? Some years later, they returned RM300,000. What happened to the rest of the money? But MORE importantly, isn’t there a LAW against such acts, I think it is called CBT?

French Judges Probe Malaysian Prime Minister’s Role in Submarine Purchase Bribes

Posted: 17 May 2012 12:41 AM PDT

From Vancouver Sun

A Paris court of inquiry has started an investigation which may finally link the dots between Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, his country's purchase of two French submarines, bribes worth nearly $200 million and the murder of a Mongolian model by his bodyguards.

The in camera inquiry by judges Roger Le Loire and Serge Tournaire, who are highly experienced investigators in corruption and human rights cases, will try to discover if the French defence company DCNS and its project partner Thales International paid the bribes to secure the 2002 contract to supply two Scorpene submarines to the Malaysian navy.

Their inquiry will build on two years of investigation and evidence-gathering by French police.

The deal was done while Najib was defence minister and attention is focused on the role played by Najib's close friend and policy adviser, Abdul Razak Baginda.

French officials have let it be known they are especially interested in two payments by the French arms dealers.

One was for 114 million euros ($148 million) and went to a Malaysian company called Perimekar for "logistical support."

Perimekar was at the time wholly owned by a company which was controlled by Razak Baginda and his wife, Mazalinda.

The examining magistrates also want to hunt down the story behind payments worth $46 million to a company called Terasasi, which was originally incorporated in Malaysia, but then registered itself in Hong Kong where, according to the online magazine Asia Sentinel, it is listed among 142 companies at a convenience address in the Wan Chai district.

The registered directors of Terasasi are Razak Baginda and his father Abdul Malim Baginda.

Questions about the submarine deal became more intense and sharp in October 2006 after the body of Mongolian model and translator Altantuya Shaariibuu was discovered in the jungle outside Kuala Lumpur.

She had been shot in the head and an attempt then made to destroy her body with military C4 explosive.

Altantuya was the jilted lower of Razal Baginda and she had last been seen causing a scene outside his house.

A few years before she had been a model in France and in 2004 she accompanied Razal Baginda to act as translator when he was negotiating the Scorpene deal.

In a handwritten letter found after her death she said she intended to confront Razak Baginda and demand $500,000 as the price of her silence on the details of the Scorpene agreement.

Even the politically attuned Malaysian courts could not avoid this case.

But although Razak Baginda and two of then-defence minister Najib's bodyguards, Azilah Hadri and Sirul Azhar Umar, were charged with murder the outcome was deftly finessed.

In an astonishing piece of courtroom stage management, Razak Baginda, was not required to answer to the charges of abetting Altantuya's murder, was released and now lives in exile in Britain.

The bodyguards took the fall and have been sentenced to death. They are appealing the verdict, but that hearing has been delayed.

It is widely predicted that appeal will not be heard until after the next elections, expected in June, when, if Najib and his governing coalition are returned to power, a way may be found to acknowledge the bodyguards' loyalty.

After failing to get a full investigation of the Scorpene affair in Malaysia, many Malaysian human rights advocates and Altantuya's family put a lot of faith in the French investigation.

However, there was initial disappointment when it appeared that judges Le Loire and Tournaire would investigate only the bribery allegations and not look at the murder of Altantuya.

But 10 days ago the Malaysian human rights group Suaram was allowed to give the judges a private briefing. Spokesmen for the group said afterward they described the political context of the affair from the Malaysian point of view and gave the judges a list of potential witnesses.

Among them is Razak Baginda, and there are reports the judges may attempt to subpoena him from Britain.

Others on the list, such as Prime Minister Najib, are unlikely to take any notice.

But Altantuya's father, Setev Shaariibuu, says he intends to go to Paris from Mongolia and that from his last conversation with his daughter he can "connect the dots" for the judges.

Siasatan Perancis Bongkar Kaitan Najib Dengan Semua

Posted: 16 May 2012 10:32 PM PDT

Harakah
