Guys, the air cargo cartel involving MAS started in 1999 and the decision was in 2010 see link -

in YB’s earlier posting about this Dr. Wafi, it stated that he joined MAS in 2003. How can he be responsible or didnt do enough for the antitrust fines when he wasn’t even in MAS? We can conclude that he came later and saved MAS from huge fine unlike other airlines.

Somebody said about barking up the wrong treelah…..deadwoodlah…

We (including me) must be objective. Jangan sampai benci membakar diri sendiri di neraka.

In the US, MAS was not convicted but only a “settlement without admission of liability” of USD 3.35m (the lowest amongst airlines) as lawyers say.

Europe was a different proceeding and MAS was not guilty at all and no settlement was made i.e zero pay out. KLM-Air France was fined Euro 310m for this and so too JAL, Singapore and Cathay.

Even the mighty Singapore airlines has paid USD 150m in fines and damages. BA has paid USD 460m to date. Same too with Qantas which was fined heavily and had 2 executives sent to jail.

Separtely in UK, MAS got itself discharged as a co-defendant of British airways -again huge savings from liabilities. Both Alliance and non-Alliance airlines have been charged under antitrust laws.

Mind you, this was at a time when there was no antitrust law in Malaysia but MAS was without doubt successful in these cases. At that time, all of us Malaysians were ignorant about antitrust law. Suddenly Malaysia has woken up and now everyone claims to be an antitrust expert.

If MAS had lost these cases, MAS would definitely been bankrupt – liability of around RM 3 billion. We would not even need YB’s efforts and blog on the CCF, share swap etc. In fact, only air asia will exist and no competition at all. Then its back to the bad old days of a monopoly – but this time by air asia and TF. Imagine that.

after 30 years in mas, and now into the 7th MD/CEO, I can say with conviction that any hope of any recovery can be safely dumped into the deepest dustbin.Every business plan/transformation plan is rolled out as a quick-fix to the problems of the day, and ignores the rot and the weakest point in mas, which is the way people are hired, trained, developed (or not) and rewarded/punished. Discipline, responsibiity and accountability are just words. Acts of misconduct or negligence afe dealt with by double standards for years. A person known for dishonesty can be promoted to a position of high responsibilty because of “”connections”, in fact the joke is, the bigger you fumble, the higher you gonna be promoted, provided of couse, you have ‘godfathers’. Even when the company is bleeding and on its knees, recruitment and promotions (barely justifiable) continues. The performance mgmt system, run for 5 years, is just a form filling exercise. when vacancies esp at high levels occur, speculation and horsetrading and ‘negotiations’ determine who gets the post. The so-called talent mgmt dept claims to have a talent list no-one knows about, and in any case, when mas keeps bringing in people from outside, the liist is as good as toilet paper.The HR division is run by little napoleons whose motto is ‘do what we say, not what we do’. The new lady with 2 years khazanah training came in to ‘trnaform’HR but she just recycled the same old stale wine in new packaging, and ended up with trusted leiutenants, the Vps who have absolutely no credibilty or capabilty to speak of. one of the great jokes of the transformation is to organise kite-flying for staff!! Now with the new CEO and deputy again parachuted from outside, we have 3 structures abd 2 biz plans in 3 mths with changes to come, before stf can understand one, another comes out. This duo, for all their claimed qualifications have no clue how to manage. plans are rolled out with scant understanding of the sentiment on the ground. sure, they dont have to bother abt the staff (after all arent we responsible for the mess?) but they forget, in order to drive their biz plans (even though the plan is full of holes) it is these same stf they have to buy-in to make it work. now, stf hav to depend on second hand news, rumours etc to find out whats going on, in “dialogues’with unions, only vague and contradictory answers ae given, finally, the credibilty of these 2 as far as the stf are concerned is ZERO. the whole issue of mas is the PEOPLE, many good and loyal ones who are simply outnumbered by the politiking goons.
put the untrustworthy nonexec union into the whole pot, then what we end up with is a great big mess which made us vulnerable to predators, as has now happened. we simply brought it upon ourselves. MAS is doomed.

based on today session with union, business plan by whix kid danny, he is looking to sell maskargo and engineering to 3rd party if the price is right. like a wonderful WAU 2002 when this Danny the con-sultant sold MAS catering to u-know-who. when union raise a concern that selling kargo and engineering will repeat same mistake when MAS sold catering, danny answer very simple ” we will be more careful this time”… wau, what an intelligent answer from our 2nd man……

sorry can’t provide more detail as i not there…maybe union rep can shed more light on this and other matter

not sure if all we say and fight, either during townhall with mgmt or cyber world, will make any changes…..

MAS becoming more ridiculous now and really feel hopeless when thinking about the future on this once a global icon….

only 1 man can put the stop to this “drama tamil” which is our PM but sad to see that he also don’t say anything…… if he just keep quite doing nothing, ppl will assume all these been planned with his blessing……. really not sure who to vote in GE next year…………

appreciate ur support. BTW, they just bunch of guy who can’t accept the fact that they don’t get a job in MAS coz either lack of experience or qualification. easier to blame on lack of relative…

this statement is an insult to all MAS staff that to get a job in MAS musti ada saudara, without looking at our qualification/experiences

if one of u can show that 25% MAS staff (darn low compared to u statement that work in MAS musti ada saudara, when i should put 51% to show the majority) get the job coz of ada saudara, not because of qualification/experience, i will withdraw my statement and offer my humble apologies to those guy. in fact i buy u a dinner for 1 week.

if NO, then u comment for the sake making comment!!!!!!!!!!

ok. semua rakyat Malaysia yang bukan staff jom keluar dan jangan lagi baca dan ambil tahu pasal MAS. biar MAS staff yang selesai sendiri. mari kita tengok apa mereka boleh buat. maaf kepada staff MAS yang lain. kerana seorang dua staff yang macam mereka-mereka ini. Aku sendiri jadi muak. sila baca blog 1Malaysia.com.my.banyak rakyat kebanyakan meyuarakan tentang isu ini. mereka/kami bersama MAS. tapi kini mereka yang menegur dicakap bodoh, dicaci dan dikatakan menjadi machai family. sesungguhnya ego mereka mengatasi segalanya dan mungkin sesetengah yang mempunyai igo ini anggap MAS boleh berdiri sendiri tanpa bantuan orang lain.
