Responding to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok's parliamentary question on whether the government is using the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA) to exert influence over online media without parliament approval, Home Minister Hishammuddin repeated his earlier announcement that plans are indeed under way for the act to be expanded to allow the government to regulate and control online media news content.

According to him, the government is now re-evaluating the effectiveness of the PPPA to include possible offences in online media content and such effort is important and appropriate with the current situation and times so as to ensure the act shall remain relevant in preserving our safety and public order.

Today, DAP's MP for Serdang cum DAP's national assistant publicity secretary Saudari Teo Nie Ching slams Home Ministry's for its intention to expand the regulation of existing media law over the Internet media.

"Online media is not immune to Penal Code, Sedition Act 1948, Defamation Act 1957, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. If the Federal Government really wants to amend Printing Presses and Publication Act, please revoke the requirement for the printing media to renew their license, not to expand its scope and include “publications” posted online and plug loopholes." Teo said.

Tati: Ok, I am a bit confused actually. I do not remember DAP assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah saying "It's only a cat" at the press conference last Sunday. I was there together with Lynn Wong and both us were allowed to go into the private room together with 3  other activists from MDDB (Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better). Maybe he did say that earlier before Lynn and I arrived as we were only allowed to meet Chow Xiao Wei, Chow's mom, Yong and Teo in the room after they ended their press conference session with the press.

No one from the media was allowed to enter the room with us 5 activists and whatever was mentioned in the room, I have already blogged about it here

I remember sitting next to YB Teo and while MDDB reps were talking to Ean Yong and Chow, I managed to ask YB Teo a few questions and she did say this:
