Long wait for dream home almost over

GEORGE TOWN : The long wait for a dream home is almost over for some 300 buyers when an abandoned housing project in Relau was revived following a 12-year delay.

The Desa Aman Apartments, a low-to-medium cost project  with 392 units, received a lifeline after a developer took over  the project from its predecessor last year.

Its construction came to a halt in 2005 following a winding  up order against the former developer.

A spokesman from the property developer, Patsifit Con struction Sdn Bhd, said the rehabilitated project was slated to  receive the occupancy certificate (OC) by the year's end after  construction works were almost 95 per cent complete yes terday.

The project comprising two blocks is scheduled to be ready  by December 22.

With an average price of RM68,000 per unit when the sale  and purchase agreement was signed in 2000, the market  price of the 10-storey and 20-storey blocks had soared to  about RM120,000.

State Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts  Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said about 96 per cent of  the purchasers had opted to continue paying housing loan to  secure their future homes.

"We want to highlight the latest development as several  purchasers are still not aware of the current status of the  project.

"Some are facing difficulties with their bank loan approval  and the developer will help them on a case-to-case basis,"  Wong said during a site inspection yesterday.

He said the developer would apply for the OC over the next  two weeks
