Police Action A Slap In The Face For Najib

Posted: 16 Dec 2011 07:19 PM PST

By Teo Nie Ching ~

The harsh action taken by a large number of police officers to break up a group of 15 students' flash mob attempt to demonstrate support for academic freedom was one inconceivable act of police brutality.

Academic freedom is the fundamental core of universities and it is high time that the Barisan Nasional administration review their customary oppressive policies against institutions of higher learning and undergraduates.

Prime Minister Najib Razak, on the eve of Malaysia Day, had pledged that he would make Malaysia "the best democracy in the world" and one of the key initiative was to revise Section 27 of the Police Act 1977 in accordance with the provision of Section 10 of the Federal Constitution to provide greater freedom of assembly.

Prime Minister Najib also announced in Parliament recently that the government would revise Section 15 of the UUCA to enable undergraduates above the age of 21 to participate in politics.

Press statement by Teresa Kok on conditions attached to accepting MCA's public service

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 11:17 PM PST

By Teresa Kok ~

If there are any conditions attached to any of MCA's public service such as  Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman or 1MCA Medical Foundation, MCA should state these conditions from the start.

MCA's insistence that MP for Serdang Teo Nie Ching and MP for Chong Eng are "ungrateful" for "not having shown gratitude" for having been a beneficiary of MCA's public service in the past is a petty and pointless attempt to score political points.

Negri Sembilan MCA chief Dr Yeow Chai Thiam has been repeating the lie that Teo Nie Ching has not thanked him for having assisted her sick mother in 2009, ignoring the fact that she had thanked him many times, back then and even during her speech before an audience of 1,500 people last Thursday. Sabah MCA vice-chairman Chew Kok Woh parroted Dr Yeow's lie and further reminded Chong Eng that she had studied at the MCA's Tunku Abdul Rahman College.
